Dear Friends,

Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Karnataka Election Watch have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 189 re-contesting MLAs in the Karnataka Assembly Election 2023. Out of the 189 re-contesting MLAs, assets of 168 MLAs (89%) have increased ranging from 1% to 1188% and assets of 21 MLAs (11%) have decreased ranging from -0.36% to -68%.

  • Average Assets in 2018 Elections: The average assets of these 189 re-contesting MLAs fielded by various parties including independents in 2018 was Rs 29.18 Crores.
  • Average Assets in 2023 Elections: The average asset of these 189 re-contesting MLAs in 2023 is Rs 48.59 Crores.
  • Average Asset growth in 5 years (2018-2023): The average asset growth for these 189 re- contesting MLAs, between the Karnataka Assembly Elections of 2018 and 2023 is Rs 19.41 Crores.
  • Percentage growth in 5 years (2018-2023): Average percentage growth in assets for these 189 re-contesting MLAs is 67%.


Top 5 Re-contesting MLAs with highest asset increase (Rupees- wise)

  • D K Shivkumar of INC from Kanakapura constituency has declared maximum increase in assets with an increase of Rs 573.78 Crores i.e from Rs 840.01 Crores in 2018 to Rs. 1413.80 Crores in 2023.
  •  Assets of N.A.Haris of INC from Shantinagar constituency have increased by Rs 248.96 Crores, from Rs 190.24 Crores in 2018 to Rs 439.20 Crores in 2023.
  • Assets of Munirathna of BJP from Rajarajeshwarinagar constituency have risen by Rs 204.46 Crores, from Rs 89.13 Crores in 2018 to Rs 293.60 Crores in 2023
