Dear Friends, 
Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) & National Election Watch (NEW) have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of all 30 current Chief Ministers in State Assemblies and Union Territories across the nation. This data has been extracted from affidavits filed by the Chief Ministers prior to contesting their last elections.

Criminal Background

  • Chief Ministers with Criminal Cases: Out of the all 30 Chief Ministers analysed from State Assemblies and Union Territories 13 (43%) Chief Ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves.

  • Chief Ministers with Serious Criminal Cases: 13 (43%) Chief Ministers have declared serious criminal cases including cases related to murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, criminal intimidation etc.

Financial Background

  • Average Assets of Chief Ministers: The average of assets per Chief Minister from state assemblies and union territories is Rs.33.96 Crores. 
  • Crorepati Chief Ministers: Out of the 30 Chief Ministers of  State Assemblies and Union Territories analysed, 29 (97%) are crorepatis.
  • High assets Chief Ministers:  The top 3 Chief Ministers with highest assets are given below:
