Press Release 


Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Haryana Election Watch have analyzed the criminal, financial and other background details of all sitting MLAs.  This analysis is based on the affidavit submitted by the candidates prior to the 2014 Assembly elections and bye elections conducted thereafter.  For the complete report, please go to: https://adrindia.org/content/haryana-assembly-election-2014-analysis-criminal-background-financial-education-gender-and


CRIMINAL BACKGROUND

 

·         MLAs with criminal cases: Out of 90 sitting MLAs, 10(11%) MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves.

·         MLAs with serious criminal cases: 6(7%) MLAs have declared serious criminal cases.

 

·         Party wise sitting MLAs with criminal cases: 5 (10%) out of 48 MLAs from BJP, 2(11%) out of 18 MLAs from INLD and 1 MLA each from INC, Haryana Janhit Congress (BL) and Independent have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

 

·         Party wise sitting MLAs with serious criminal cases:  2 (4%) out of 48 MLAs from BJP and 1 MLA each from INC, INLD, Haryana Janhit Congress (BL) and Independent have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

FINANCIAL BACKGROUND

 

·         Crorepati MLAs: Out of 90 sitting MLAs , 75(83%) are crorepatis.

·         Party wise crorepati MLAs: 41 (85%)out of 48 MLAs from BJP, 14(93%) out of 15 MLAs from INC, 12(67%) out of 18 MLAs from INLD, 2(100%) out of 2 MLAs from Haryana Janhit Congress (BL), 1(100%) out of 1 MLA from BSP and 5 (100%)  out of 5 Independent MLAs have declared assets valued more than Rs 1 crore.

·         Average assets: The average of assets per sitting MLA is Rs.12.97 crores.

 

·         Party wise average assets: The average assets per MLA for 48 BJP MLAs analysed is Rs.10.34 crores , 18 INLD MLAs analysed is Rs.13.63 crores, 15 INC MLAs analysed is Rs.12.43 crores, 2 Haryana Janhit Congress (BL) MLAs analysed is Rs.80.12 crores and 5 Independent MLAs have average assets of Rs.13.93 crores.

OTHER BACKGROUND DETAILS

·         Education Details of MLAs:  28 (31%) MLAs have declared their educational qualification to be between 5th pass and 12th pass while 60 (67%) MLAs have declared having an educational qualification of graduate or above. 1 MLA has declared that he is illiterate and 1 MLA hold diploma in Civil engineering.

·         Age details of MLAs: 45 (50%) MLAs have declared their age to be between 25 and 50 years while 45 (50%) MLAs have declared their age to be between 51 and 70 years.

·         Gender details of MLAs: Out of 90 MLAs, 13 (14%) MLAs are women.
