Dear Friends,

Association for Democratic Reforms and Tripura Election Watch have analysed the vote share for the all 60 constituencies in the Tripura Assembly Elections, 2023.

Summary and Highlights

Vote Share of Winner

The winners of the Tripura State Assembly elections, 2023 won by an average of 48 % of total votes polled. In the 2018 elections winners won by an average of 53 % of total votes polled.

23(38%) winners won with 50% and above of the total votes polled in their constituency.

37(62%) winners won with less than 50% of the total votes polled in their constituency.

7(44%) out of 16 winners with declared criminal cases have won with a vote share of 50% and above.

10(48%) out of 21 crorepati winners have won with a vote share of 50% and above.

Margin of Victory

6 winners have won with a margin of victory of less than 500 votes.

5 winners have won with more than 40% margin of victory.

Winners with Declared Criminal Cases and their Margin of Victory

12 out of 16 winners with declared criminal cases have won against a runner up with a clean background.

Among these 12 winners, 6 winners have won with more than 10% margin of victory.

Ranjit Debbarma (Tipra Motha Party) from Ramchandraghat (ST) Constituency won with 43% margin of victory.

Crorepati Winners and their Margin of Victory

16 out of 21 crorepati winners have won against a non-crorepati runners up.

Among these 16 winners, 2 winners have won with more than 40 % margin of victory.

Among these, Animesh Debbarma (Tipra Motha Party) from Asharambari (ST) constituency won with 51% margin of victory.

Performance of Women Winners

Among the 60 winners, 9 are women.

Among these 9 women winners, 3 women winners have won with more than 10% margin of victory.

Among the women winners, Swapna Debbarma (Tipra Motha Party) from Mandai Bazar (ST) Constituency has won with the highest vote share, i.e. 66% in her constituency and 50% margin of victory.

Performance of Re-elected Winners

Out of total 25 re-elected winners, none have won with less than 30% of vote share in their respective constituencies. 3(12%) have won with more than 50% of vote share.

13(52%) re-elected winners have won with less than 10% margin of victory whereas 1 has won with more than 30% margin of victory.

NOTA

The NOTA button instated by the ECI in 2013 gave the voters an option of rejecting all the candidates in their constituency. Out of 25, 29,659 votes polled in Tripura Assembly, 2023, 34,449 (1.36%) were polled for NOTA.
