Dear Friends,
Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Punjab Election Watch have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 101 re-contesting MLAs in the Punjab Assembly Election 2022. Out of the 101 re-contesting MLAs, assets of 78 MLAs (77%) have increased ranging from 2% to 2954% and assets of 21 MLAs (21%) have decreased ranging from -2% to -74%.

  • Average Assets in 2017 Elections: The average assets of these 101 re-contesting MLAs fielded by various parties including independents in 2017 was Rs 13.34 Crores.
  • Average Assets in 2022 Elections: The average asset of these 101 re-contesting MLAs in 2022 is Rs 16.10 Crores.
  • Average Asset growth in 5 years (2017-2022): The average asset growth for these 101 re- contesting MLAs, between the Punjab Assembly Elections of 2017 and 2022 is Rs 2.76 Crores.
  • Percentage growth in 5 years (2017-2022): Average percentage growth in assets for these 101 re-contesting MLAs is 21%.

Top 5 Re-contesting MLAs with highest asset increase (Rupees- wise)

  • Sukhbir Singh Badal of SAD from Jalalabad constituency has declared maximum increase in assets with an increase of Rs 100 Crores i.e from Rs 102 Crores in 2017 to Rs. 202 Crores in 2022.
  • Assets of Manpreet Singh Badal of INC from Bathinda Urban constituency has increased by Rs 32 Crores, from Rs 40 Crores in 2017 to Rs 72 Crores in 2022.
  • Assets of Aman Arora  of AAP from Sunam constituency have risen by Rs 29 Crores, from Rs 65 Crores in 2017 to Rs 95 Crores in 2022.
