​Press Release: Analysis of Vote Share, Margin of Victory and Representativeness of Winners in Delhi Assembly Elections, 2025

Dear Friends,

Association for Democratic Reforms and Delhi Election Watch have analysed the vote share for all 70 constituencies in the Delhi Assembly Elections, 2025. The voter’s turnout for the Delhi Assembly was 61% whereas voter’s turnout in 2020 assembly elections was 63%.

The Delhi Assembly election result was declared on 8th February 2025.

Vote Share of Winners:

  • The winners of the Delhi State Assembly elections, 2025 won by an average of 51 % of total votes polled. In the 2020 elections winners won by an average of 55% of total votes polled.

  • 43(61%) winners won with 50% and above of the total votes polled in their constituency.
  • 27(39%) winners won with less than 50% of the total votes polled in their constituency.
  • 21(68%) out of 31 winners with declared criminal cases have won with a vote share of 50% and above.
  • 22 (56%) out of 39 winners with clean backgrounds have won with a vote share of 50% and above.
  • 41(67%) out of 61 crorepati winners analysed have won with a vote share of 50% and above.
  • 2(22%) out of 9 non-crorepati winners have won with a vote share of 50% and above.
Representativeness of Winners:
  • All the winners of the Delhi State Assembly Elections, 2025 won with an average of 31% of the total registered voters. This implies that the winners represent on an average, 31% of the total electorate. In the Delhi State Assembly Elections, 2020 won by an average of 34% of the total registered votes.
Margin of Victory:
  • 3 winners have won with a margin of victory of less than 700 votes.
  • 3 winners have won with more than 30% margin of victory. 
Winners with Declared Criminal Cases and their Margin of Victory:
  • 18 out of 31 winners with declared criminal cases have won against a runner up with a clean background.
  • Among these 18 winners, 2 winners have won with more than 20% margin of victory.
  • Among these, Aaley Mohammed Iqbal (AAP) from Matia Mahal constituency won with 50.58% margin of victory. 
Winners with clean background and their Margin of Victory:
  • 21 out of 39 winners with clean backgrounds have won against a runner up with declared criminal cases.
  • Among these 21 winners, 2 winners have won with more than 25% margin of victory.
  • Among these, Imran Hussain (AAP) from Ballimaran constituency won with 30.35% margin of victory.
Crorepati Winners and their Margin of Victory:
  • 11 out of 61 crorepati winners have won against a non-crorepati runners up.
  • Among these 11 winners, 2 winners have won with more than 30% margin of victory.
  • Among these, Vijender Gupta (BJP) from Rohini constituency won with 34.94% margin of victory.
Non-crorepati Winners and their Margin of Victory:
  • 4 out of 9 non-crorepati winners have won against crorepati runners up.
  • All 4 non-crorepati winners have won with less than 10% margin of victory.
  • Among these, Sanjeev Jha (AAP) from Burari constituency won with 8.09% margin of victory.
Performance of Women Winners
  • Among the 70 winners, 5 are women.
  • All of them won with 40% and above of vote share in their constituencies.
  • Among the women winners, Rekha Gupta (BJP) from Shalimar Bagh constituency has won with the highest vote share, i.e. 60% in her constituency. She has won with 35% representativeness and 26% margin of victory.
Performance of Re-elected Winners
  • Out of total 22 re-elected winners, none have won with less than 40% of vote share in their respective constituencies. 11(50%) have won with more than 50% of vote share.
  • 12(55%) re-elected winners have won with less than 10% margin of victory whereas 2 have won with more than 20% margin of victory.
NOTA
  • The NOTA button instated by the ECI in 2013 gave the voters an option of rejecting all the candidates in their constituency. Out of 94,88,376 votes polled in the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections, 53,738 (0.57%) were polled for NOTA.
