Dear Friends,

Association for Democratic Reforms and Manipur Election Watch have analysed the vote share for the all 60 constituencies in the Manipur Assembly Elections, 2022.

Summary and Highlights 

Vote Share of Winner


The winners of the Manipur State Assembly elections, 2022 won by an average of 44.73 % of total votes polled. In the 2017 elections winners won by an average of 45.39% of total votes polled.

  • 22(37%) winners won with 50% and above of the total votes polled in their constituency.
  • 38(63%) winners won with less than 50% of the total votes polled in their constituency.

  •  7(50%) out of 14 winners with declared criminal cases have won with a vote share of 50% and above.  
  • 18(37.5%) out of 48 crorepati winners have won with a vote share of 50% and above.

Margin of Victory
  • 22 winners have won with a margin of victory of less than 1000 votes.
  • 4 winners have won with more than 25% of margin of victory.

Winners with Declared Criminal Cases and their Margin of Victory:
  • 9 out of 14 winners with declared criminal cases have won against a runner up with a clean background.
  • Among these 9 winners, 2 winners have won with more than 20% margin of victory.  
  • Lourembam Rameshwor Meetei (BJP) from Keirao Constituency won with 29% margin of victory.  
 
Crorepati Winners and their Margin of Victory:
  • 17 out of 48 crorepati winners have won against a non-crorepati runners up.
  • Among these 17 winners, 4 winners have won with more than 20% margin of victory.
  • Among these, Nongthombam Biren Singh (BJP) from Heingang constituency won with 58% margin of victory.

Performance of Women Winners:
  • Among the 60 winners, 5 are women.
  • Among these 5 women winners, 2 women winners have won with more than 20% margin of victory.
  • Among the women winners, SS. Olish (BJP) from Chandel Constituency has won with the highest vote share, i.e. 79.06% in her constituency. She won with 58.32% margin of victory.

Performance of Re-elected Winners:
  • Out of total 35 re-elected winners, none have won with less than 25% of vote share in their respective constituencies. 13(37%) have won with more than 50% of vote share.
  • 22(63%) re-elected winners have won with less than 10% of margin of victory whereas 6 have won with more than 20% of margin of victory.

NOTA
  • The NOTA button instated by the ECI in 2013 gave the voters an option of rejecting all the candidates in their constituency. Out of 18, 57,448 votes polled in Manipur Assembly, 2022, 10,349 (0.56%) were polled for NOTA.
