Dear Friends,

Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Sikkim Election Watch have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of all 32 winning candidates in the Sikkim 2024 Assembly Elections.

Criminal Background   

  • Winning candidates with criminal cases: Out of the 32 winning candidates analysed in 2024 2(6%) winning candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves. Out of 32 MLAs analysed during Sikkim Assembly elections in 2019none of the winners have any declared criminal cases against themselves.
  • Note: P S Tamang has contested from two constituencies and won from both constituencies. He is the only one winner who has declared criminal cases against himself.

Financial Background

  •  Crorepati Winning candidates: Out of the 32 winning candidates analysed, 31 (97%) are crorepatis. Out of 32 MLAs analysed during Sikkim assembly elections 2019, 24 (75%) MLAs were crorepatis.

  • Party-wise crorepati winning candidates: 30 (97%) out of 31 from Sikkim Krantikari Morcha and 1 (100%) Sikkim Democratic Front winner candidate have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore.

  • Party wise average assets: The average assets per winning candidate for 31 Sikkim Krantikari Morcha winning candidates is Rs 20.47 Crores and 1 Sikkim Democratic Front winner candidate has average assets worth Rs 58.27 Crores.

Other Background Details

  • Education Details of winning candidates: 11 (34%) winning candidates have declared their educational qualification to be between 8th pass and 12th pass, while 18 (56%) winning candidates have declared having an educational qualification of graduate and above. 2 winning candidates are Diploma holders and 1 winner candidate has declared himself to be just literate.
  • Age details of winning candidates: 11 (34%) winning candidates have declared their age to be between 31 and 50 years while 21 (66%) winning candidates have declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years.
  • Gender details of winning candidates: Out of 32 winning candidates analysed, 4 (12.5%) winning candidates are women. In 2019, out of 32 MLAs, 3 (9%) MLAs were women.

Comparative Analysis Of Assets Of Re-Elected MLAs


  • Number of re-elected MLAs: Number of re-elected MLAs analysed in the Sikkim assembly elections of 2024 is 14.
  • Average assets of re-elected MLAs in 2019: The average assets of re-elected MLAs in 2019 was Rs 6.31 crore.
  • Average assets of re-elected MLAs in 2024: The average assets of re-elected MLAs in 2024 is Rs 14.86 crores.
  • Average growth in assets of re-elected MLAs from 2019 to 2024: The growth in average assets of re-elected MLAs is Rs 8.55 crores i.e. by 135%.
