Dear Friends,

Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Telangana Election Watch have analyzed the criminal, financial and other background details of 33 out of 40 sitting MLCs. 1 MLC has not been analysed as his affidavit was unavailable. 6 Nominated MLCs are not required to submit their affidavits, hence their information on criminal, financial and other details are not available in the public domain.

Criminal Background

  • MLCs with criminal cases: Out of the 33 MLCs analysed, 10(30%) MLCs have declared criminal cases against themselves.
  • MLCs with serious criminal cases: 6(18%) MLCs have declared serious criminal cases.
  • Party wise MLCs with criminal cases: 10(37%) out of the 27 TRS MLCs have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
  • Party wise MLCs with serious criminal cases: 6(22%) out of the 27 TRS MLCs have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

Financial Background

  • Crorepati MLCs: Out of the 33 sitting MLCs analysed, 29 (88%) are crorepatis.
  • Party-wise crorepati MLCs: Among major parties, 25(93%) out of 27 MLCs from TRS, 1 (100%) MLC from INC, 1(50%) out of 2 MLCs from AIMIM and 2(67%) out of the 3 Independent MLCs have declared assets valued more than Rs 1 crore.

  • Average assets: The average of assets per MLC is Rs. 17.80 crores.
  • Party wise average assets: Among the major parties, the average assets per MLC for 27 TRS MLCs analysed is Rs 21.32 crores, 2 AIMIM MLCs have average assets of Rs 96.80 lakhs, 1 INC MLC has assets worth Rs. 3.16 crores and 3 Independent MLCs have average assets of Rs. 2.27 crores.

Other Background details

  • Education Details of MLCs: 4(12%) MLCs have declared their educational qualification to be between 5th pass and 12th pass while 29 (88%) MLCs have declared having an educational qualification of graduate or above.
  • Age details of MLCs: 6(18%) MLCs have declared their age to be between 31 and 50 year’s while16 (49%) MLCs have declared their age to be between 51 and 60 years. There are 11(33%) MLCs who have declared their age to be between 61 to 80 years.
  • Gender details of MLCs: Out of 33 MLCs, 3 (9%) MLCs are women.
