Dear Friends,

Association for Democratic Reforms and Maharashtra Election Watch have analysed the vote share for all 288 constituencies in the Maharashtra Assembly Elections, 2024. The voter’s turnout for the Maharashtra Assembly was 67% whereas voter’s turnout in 2019 assembly elections was 61%.

The Maharashtra Assembly election result was declared on 23rd November 2024.

Vote Share of Winners:

  • The winners of the Maharashtra State Assembly elections 2024, won with an average of 51 % of total votes polled. In the 2019 elections, winners won with an average of 49% of total votes polled.

  • 161(56%) winners won with 50% and above of the total votes polled in their constituency.
  • 127(44%) winners won with less than 50% of the total votes polled in their constituency.
  • 109(58%) out of 189 winners with declared criminal cases have won with a vote share of 50% and above.
  • 52 (53%) out of 99 winners with clean backgrounds have won with a vote share of 50% and above.
  • 157(56%) out of 279 crorepati winners analysed have won with a vote share of 50% and above.
  • 4(44%) out of 9 non-crorepati winners have won with a vote share of 50% and above.

Representativeness of Winners:
  • All the winners of the Maharashtra State Assembly Elections, 2024 won with an average of 34% of the total registered voters. This implies that the winners represent on an average, 34% of the total electorate. In the Maharashtra State Assembly Elections, 2019, winners won by an average of 30% of the total registered votes.

Margin of Victory:
  • 4 winners have won with a margin of victory of less than 1000 votes.
  • 8 winners have won with more than 50% margin of victory.
Winners with Declared Criminal Cases and their Margin of Victory:
  • 66 out of 189 winners with declared criminal cases have won against a runner up with a clean background.
  • Among these 66 winners, 2 winners have won with more than 50% margin of victory.
  • Among these, Shivendraraje Abhaysinhraje Bhonsle (BJP) from Satara constituency won with 64.58% margin of victory.
Winners with clean background and their Margin of Victory:
  • 57 out of 99 winners with clean backgrounds have won against a runner up with declared criminal cases.
  • Among these 57 winners, 3 winners have won with more than 50% margin of victory.
  • He is, Dilip Manglu Borse (BJP) from Baglan constituency won with 62.92% margin of victory.
Crorepati Winners and their Margin of Victory:
  • 13 out of 279 crorepati winners have won against a non-crorepati runners up.
  • Among these 13 winners, 1 winner Khoskar Hiraman Bhika (NCP) from Igatpuri constituency won with 40.27% margin of victory.
Non-crorepati Winners and their Margin of Victory:
  • 9 out of 9 non-crorepati winners have won against crorepati runners up.
  • Among these 9 winners, 2 winners have won with more than 10% margin of victory.
  • Among these, Gopichand Kundlik Padalkar (BJP) from Jat constituency won with 17.95% margin of victory.
Performance of Women Winners:
  • Among the 288 winners, 22 are women.
  • All of them won with 25% and above of vote share in their constituencies.
  • Among the women winners, Aditi Sunil Tatkare (NCP) from Shrivardhan Constituency has won with the highest vote share, i.e. 70.79% in her constituency. She has won with 43.75% representativeness and 50.51% margin of victory.
Performance of Re-elected Winners:
  • Out of total 183 re-elected winners, none have won with less than 25% of vote share in their respective constituencies. 106(58%) have won with more than 50% of vote share.
  • 67(37%) re-elected winners have won with less than 10% margin of victory whereas 8 have won with more than 50% margin of victory.
NOTA:
  • The NOTA button instated by the ECI in 2013 gave the voters an option of rejecting all the candidates in their constituency. Out of 6,45,92,508 votes polled in 2024 Maharashtra Assembly Elections, 4,61,866 (0.72%) were polled for NOTA.
