Dear Friends,

The Jharkhand Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of all 309 candidates, who are contesting from 17 constituencies in the Jharkhand Assembly Elections Phase III.

Criminal Background

 

·         Candidates with Criminal Cases: Out of 309 candidates analyzed, 91 (29%) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves.

·         Candidates with Serious Criminal Cases: 62(20%) candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves.

·         Party wise Candidates with Criminal Cases:  Among the major parties, 4(44%) out of 9 candidates analysed from INC, 10 (71%) out of 14 candidates analysed from AJSU Party, 8(50%) out of 16 candidates analysed from BJP and 8 (47%) out of 17 candidates analysed from JVM(P) have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

·         Party wise Candidates with Serious Criminal Cases:  Among the major parties, 3(33%) out of 9 candidates analysed from INC, 6(38%) out of 16 candidates analysed from BJP, 5(29%) out of 17 candidates analysed from JVM(P) and 6(43%) out of 14 candidates analysed from AJSU Party have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

·         Candidates with declared cases related to crime against women: 10 candidates have declared cases related to crime against women such as assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty (IPC Section-354) and word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman (IPC Section-509).

·         Candidates with declared cases related to murder: 2 candidates have declared cases related to murder (IPC Section-302) against themselves.

·         Candidates with declared cases related to attempt to murder: 13 candidates have declared cases related to attempt to murder (IPC Section-307) against themselves.

·         Candidates with declared convicted cases: 2 candidates have declared convicted cases against themselves.

·         Red Alert Constituencies*: All 17 constituencies in the Jharkhand assembly elections, Phase III are having 3 or more candidates with declared criminal cases.

*Red Alert Constituencies are those which have 3 or more candidates with criminal cases contesting elections.

 

Financial Background

·         Crorepati Candidates: Out of the 309 candidates, 77(25%) are crorepatis.

·         Party wise Crorepati Candidates: Among the major parties 13(81%) out of 16 candidates analysed from BJP, 5(83%) out of 6 candidates analysed from JMM, 4(44%) out of 9 candidates analysed from INC, 11(79%) out of 14 candidates analysed from AJSU Party and 9(53%) out of 17 candidates from JVM(P) have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore.

·         Average assets: The average of assets per candidate contesting in the Jharkhand Assembly Elections Phase III  is Rs 1.24 crores.  

·         Party wise average assets: Among major parties, the average assets per candidate for 9 INC candidates analysed is Rs. 4.22 crores, 6 JMM candidates analysed is Rs 2.32 crore, 16 BJP candidates have average assets of Rs 4.68 crore, 17 JVM(P) candidates have average assets of Rs 2.69 crore and 14 AJSU Party candidates have average assets worth Rs. 3.37 crore.

·         High asset candidates:  The details of top 3 candidates with highest declared assets, contesting in the Jharkhand Assembly Elections Phase III are given below:

Other Background Details

·         Education details of candidates: 148 (48%) candidates have declared their educational qualification to be between 5th and 12th standard, while 140 (45%) candidates have declared having an educational qualification of graduate or above. 1 candidate has declared his education just Illiterate and 14 candidates declared themselves as literate.

·         Age details of candidates: 137(44%) candidates have declared their age to be between 25 to 40 years while 143 (46%) candidates have declared their age to be between 41 to 60 years.  There are 25(8%) candidates who have declared their age to be between 61 to 80 years. 3 candidates have not declared their age while one candidate has declared his age below 25 years.

·         Gender details of candidates: 32(10%) female candidates are contesting in the Jharkhand assembly election Phase III.
