Dear Friends,

The National Election Watch and Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 6318 out of 6792 candidates who contested in the Union Territory of Puducherry and 4 states of Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal till Phase III. 474 candidates were not analysed due to unclear affidavits available on the ECI website at the time of making this report.

Criminal Background

  • Candidates with Criminal cases: Out of 6318 candidates analysed, 1157 (18%) have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
  • Candidates with serious criminal cases: 632 (10 %) candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves.

Other Background Details

  • Overall Educational Details: 3106(49%) candidates have declared their educational qualification to be between 5th to 12th pass, while 2724(43%) candidates are graduates or have higher degrees.90 candidates have declared themselves as just literates and 120 candidates are illiterate.
  • Overall Age Details: 4163 (66%) candidates have declared their age to be between 25 to 50 years whereas 2146(34%) candidates have declared their age to be between 51 to 80 years. 8 candidates have declared their age to be above 80 years while 1 candidate has declared his age to be below 25 years.
