Hi Ag U friends,
We apologize for our longer than expected break from meeting! We have been immersed in our work here on the ground with the Second World and are excited to share our exploration now with all of you.
As we discussed during our last call, this fall we'll be sharing readings related to the Second World we've been convening here at the Simone Weil House. For a sense of what that looks like, you can
take a look at our page here, which has a little video tour of our front yard Village Commons and Kiosk and a beautiful reflection from Bert on the "serious play" of this project. Our Thursday discussions will complement the less reading-focused discussions we'll be having on related themes over our Wednesday potluck dinners.
Meeting next week - The Need for Roots
The first reading we'll share is
Simone Weil's The Need for Roots, her vision for rebuilding France after WWII and thus a fitting place to begin our exploration of the new world we're being called into by our belief in Christ.
You can find the full text here. For next week, we'll read the first half of Part I: The Needs of the Soul, through the section on hierarchism (p. 1-17). We also strongly recommend reading the preface from T.S. Eliot, which offers a really beautiful meditation on Weil's life and the context for The Need for Roots.
We hope you can join us! More framing on the themes we'll be exploring over the course of the fall and upcoming texts to come.
Peace,
Emma
