Dear Catholic Workers and Peacemakers, 

Thanks to a few of you we now have, sadly, 17 Jesuit Catholic Universities hosing Department of Defense military schools on campus, teaching war and killing.  (See Attached list to find one closest to you.) Someone pointed out that Loyola Marymout is Los Angeles host AFROTC (Air Force) on campus.  More significantly,  someone pointed out there is ROTC (Army) classes, training and drills on the Boston College Campus.  Boston College has a long history, since 1870, of the military on campus.  However, on October 2, 1979 The Board of Directors of BC voted to sever Boston College ties to ROTC. It remained ROTC free till 1984 when Boston College became a partner school with Liberty Battalion, part of 2nd Brigade, U.S. Army Cadet Command (USACC) located at Northeastern University.  This is more than being a feeder school or affiliate with ROTC.  It means that ROTC (Army) classes, training and drills are now at Boston College.  Thus BC teaches war and killing. 

 There are a number of Jesuit Catholic Universities, like Georgetown, that eliminated ROTC on campus only to bring it back.  The lure of money, honor and glory (three temptations of Lucifer according to St. Ignatius of Loyola) seems to be two powerful for Jesuit universities to resist.  In fact, 17 of the 28 Catholic Universities we identified as hosting the military on campus are Jesuit Catholic Universities.  (See list below)

Please contact us if you are interested the National Resistance Day for Jesuit Catholic Universities to be faithful to the Gospel and not host Departments of Military (ROTC) on campus.  We need a number of Catholic Workers and peacemakers at each of  the 17 locations to get our message to Jesuits.

List of Catholic Jesuit Colleges and Universities that host Military Base Schools 

All colleges and universities, unless deemed pacifist, by law are required to offer ROTC programs to receive any federal funding.  However, they do not need to offer the military training on campus.  There are only a limited number of schools that freely choose to host Department of Defense Military training programs (Army, Navy/Marine, Air Force.  All other colleges and universities send ROTC students to these host schools.
