CASA CRY                                OCTOBER, 2025

The US empire lies.  It lied about 9/11 blaming Iraq for the destruction of the

N.Y.buildings in order to get oil.  Trump tried to orchestrate a regime change in Venezuela the last time he was in office, and he’s doing it again for the exact same reasons. It’s an oil-rich nation that refuses to bow to the dictates of Washington, and all the worst warmongers in the imperial swamp are eagerly pushing to absorb it into the folds of the empire.---Alliance for Global Justice The US blockade on Venezuela led to the deaths of over 100,000 Venezuelans by 2021. The US government cooked up its own president of Venezuela in 2019, put a $25 million bounty on democratically elected President Maduro, stole CITGO; froze US$30 billion of its funds overseas, blocked Venezuela from selling its oil, and attempted to overthrow the government several times.  As a result, Venezuelan Gross Domestic Product shrank to less than one quarter its 2012 size. Back then only 3% of the population was malnourished. After years of the US blockade, by 2019 it had risen to 32%.Immigrants from Latin America come here as a direct result of US coups, invasions, and economic warfare against their countries. Colombians came because the US armed death squad governments. So did Salvadorans and Guatemalans in the 1980s. "When we take any part in government by voting for legislative, judicial, and executive officials we make these people our arm by which we cast a stone (John 8:7b) and deny the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5)" -- Ammon Hennacy

"Our problems stem from our acceptance of this filthy rotten system" -- Dorothy Day

"There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must NEVER be a time when we fail to protest" -- Elie Wiesel, Nobel Laureate and witness

Here is a list of our current needs:  PRAYERS, 39 GALLON GARBAGE BAGS, LAUNDRY DETERGERNT, CEANING SUPPLIES, BLEACH, MILK, DISH SOAP, PAPER TOWELS

DON’S JOKES

.”Why can’t ants swim?  Because they are buoyant.  What time does Donald Duck wake up?  At the quick of dawn.    What did the shower stay to the toilet? You look flushed.    When I was a little kid my mom would give ma a dollar, and I would was able to get a loaf of bread, some meat, some vegies and a carton of ice cream.  Now days I can’t do that. There are too many security cameras. I always thought the frog is from German ancestry, but now I know that the frog is a tad-pole.  Kid: “Mommy, mommy - What’s a vampire?” Mother: “Shut up and eat your soup before it clots!” . Years ago, many people own horses and only the rich had cars. Now days most people have cars and only the rich have horses.  So the stables have changed.  He looks at the menu and then scans her from head to toe, finally saying, “A quickie.” The waitress turns and walks away annoyed. After regaining composure, she returns and asks again, “What would you like, sir?”  Again, he answers, “A quickie, please.”The waitress, now angry, slaps him and storms off. A man at the next table leans over and whispers, “I think it’s pronounced ‘quiche’.” A proud Texan discovers that Alaska is bigger than Texas. This niggles away at him for years, and he finally decides he has to become an Alaskan, so he takes a flight to Fairbanks and heads straight to the nearest bar.“I’m from Texas. What do I have to do to become an Alaskan?” he asks the bartender. The bartender sees an opportunity for some fun, so he replies: “Well, it ain’t easy. You gotta down a pint of whiskey in one gulp, dance under the moon with an Eskimo, and shoot a polar bear” “Heck, that’s easy! boasts the Texan. Gimme a pint of whiskey!”He manages to down it all in one go and, eyes bulging, staggers out of the bar.Hours later, just before the bar was about to close, the Texan staggers back in. His clothes are ripped to shreds, and he’s covered in blood from head to toe.“What happened!” the bartender gasps !” Never you mind.” says the Texan, “Where’s that Eshkimo I gotta shoot?”

Dad is listening to his daughter say her prayers before bedtime: "God bless mommy and god bless daddy and god bless grandma and... goodbye grandpa." He asks her - why did you say that? I don't know, I just felt like saying it.The next day, grandpa drops dead. Wow, thinks dad, that's an odd coincidence.A month later at bedtime, the daughter says - God bless mommy and daddy. And goodbye grandma.Sure enough, the next day grandma breathes her last earthly breath. The dad realizes this is more than a coincidence, but he is not sure what to do. He doesn't want to disturb his wife by telling her (Grandma and grandpa were her parents).Months go by and one night the man is listening to his daughter saying her prayers at bedtime - God bless mommy....she turns her head and looks straight at him - and goodbye daddy. What!? are you sure honey? She nods. The man's heart begins racing and he breaks out in a sweat. He is so upset, he can't sleep at all that night. The next day he goes off to work, but locks himself in his office. He takes the phone off the hook, cancels all his meetings and awaits the inevitable. He stays at work past 5 because he feels secure there. He watches the hours tick by. Finally it is midnight and, drenched in sweat, he realizes he has cheated death. He drives home drenched in sweat and with all his nerves frazzled. His wife is up and waiting for him - Where the hell were you today??He replies - Don't shout, I've had an absolutely miserable day.His wife then says - You had a miserable day? I'm the one who had a miserable day! First, the milkman drops dead on the steps...

INTERESTING FACTs       The US is considering "shooting down Venezuelan military aircraft" or "bombing Venezuelan military airfield," according to a report from independent journalist Ken Klippenstein.---Common Dreams  We  condemn the escalating US attacks on Venezuela that have been ongoing since the Bolivarian Revolution began in 1998, including pressuring the country to bend to US interests through the imposition of unilateral coercive measures (“sanctions”) since 2015. These illegal measures are deliberately designed to cause inhumane suffering to destabilize the country and compel regime change. It has always been clear that the sanctions on Venezuela are a ploy to gain access to the country’s vast natural resources, including the world’s largest oil reserves. -more-

September 23, 2025 Online here.   Hundreds of people who were once detained at the troubled immigration jail in the Florida Everglades dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz” have disappeared.  About two-thirds of the 1,800 immigrants who were held there in July have gone missing from ICE’s online database, with their families unable to locate them.---Miami Herald

Only rightwing, belligerently obtuse ones cannot grasp the irony. At the very the moment he fell victim to a gunman’s bullet, Charle Kirk was advocating for unrestricted access to firearms. He died as he lived: indifferent, by intention, to the deadly consequences of his worldview.--- from Phil Rockstroh's Substack Some bishops compared Charlie Kirk  to St. Paul. This would be extraordinary if applied to even the holiest of individuals. Cardinal Dolan knows this. His hyperbolic, Fox-friendly comments are just the latest in a series of attempts by conservative influencers (it is sad that both Dolan and Bishop Robert Barron unfortunately fall into this category now) to whitewash some of Kirk's more unsavory statements and opinions.---NCR\

The jury awarded the City of Baltimore $62 million in damages after the gun dealer Hanover Armory supplied the streets of Baltimore with deadly, untraceable ghost guns .Brady just set the historic precedent that there are consequences for dealers who capitalize on crime to feed their bottom line. ---Brady Against Gun Violence

Portion of Americans who cannot name any First Amendment rights: ---1/15.---Harper”s Index  The Trump administration is taking more than $600 million in FEMA money and giving it to states, not to rebuild after disasters, but to lock up more people in unsafe, overcrowded facilities. This has nothing to do with emergency response. These camps hold people, many fleeing danger, indefinitely. No trial. No release date. No safety. The Senate is on the verge of passing the distinctly misnamed “big beautiful bill  The version that passed the House recently would cut $1.7 trillion, mostly in domestic spending, while providing the top 5% of taxpayers with roughly $1.5 trillion in tax breaks. Over the next few years, the same bill will add another $150 billion to a Pentagon budget already soaring towards a record $1 trillion., much of which cannot be accounted for by an audit.  ---Tom Dispatch   Amnesty International has just released a major report on the states, public institutions and companies that have enabled and profited from Israel’s genocide and occupation. Companies named in the report include U.S. military contractors Boeing and Lockheed Martin, the Israeli arms companies Elbit Systems, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries, the South Korean conglomerate Hyundai and the U.S. tech company Palantir Technologies. The Catholic Worker, Casa Maria, in Tuczon, AZ are on a 40 day water only fast. Our hope and prayer is that a 40 DAY water only FAST will somehow inspire the Senators and all of us to demand an END TO THE GENOCIDE.

THE SPARROW SINGS

“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.”  Maya Angelou”  In this troubled time it seems we are all looking for a rainbow.  We are suffering through a storm of negativity and suffering that has been inflicted on the people in our country and the world.  There has been a demise of simple kindness and care for those who have less, or are hurting, or need help.  It feels like a shroud on our shoulders.  We are waiting for a break in the storm and the sun to come out so that the beautiful rainbow that Mayah Angelou spoke about will surround us.  A rainbow of many colors which will free us with its beauty.  For now, let us each be the rainbow for all whom we meet every day.  Peace, Roberta
