CASA CRY April, 2016
When people say “We will pray for you” we are not asking God to do what you want, but what God wants for us. God is not the reason why we sometimes become ill or have an accident or to die from these or other reasons. We are the reason for our unhappiness. God already loves everyone without exception and would never want someone to suffer. God only wants everyone to be happy. He gave us the way to achieving happiness. The way is to love everyone like Christ does, to love even your enemies and to do good to them. To love everyone means that we only want good for all, just as Christ does. Christ never advocated doing violence to another, no matter how much he or she causes us or others to suffer and die God loves all equally and wants us to do the same. If hurting or killing another is the answer to our unhappiness and misery God would have told us to do that. We, not God, are the reason for our suffering and misery. We refuse to follow the plan of God for our happiness. Most of our taxes go toward doing violence to others. War is never the way To happiness for both sides doing the fighting. Only love, forgiveness and wanting good for all will bring us the happiness we hope to all have one day. So when we say “We will be praying for you.” We should be hoping that we love all people and to do good to those who cause our suffering. Love is patient, kind and never hurtful. We pray for all people. Christ showed us the way. Let’s follow Him ---Don Timmerman

DON’S JOKES
What is faster Hot or cold? Hot, because you can catch a cold. Why are people so tired on April 1? They’ve just finished a 31-day March. Why can’t leopards play hide and seek? Because they are always spotted. Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day. I wasn’t originally going to get a brain transplant, but then I changed my mind. My dog used to chase people on bikes a lot. It got so bad that finally I had to take his bike away. Always forgive your enemies cause nothing annoys them more. “It seems I have spent a lifetime of mouthing mechanically, ‘Say thank you. Sit up straight. Use your napkin. Close your mouth when you chew. Don’t lean back in your chair.’ Just when I finally got my husband squared away, the kids came along.” —Erma Bombeck What kind of car does an egg like? A Volkswagen. I used to play the piano by ear. Now I use my hands. "What do clouds wear?" "Thunderwear."

Kathleen “Kitty” Trokan left on her final adventure March 13, 2026 in Waconia, MN. Kitty was a free spirit who lived life on her own terms, fiercely independent but gently accepting of whatever life had to offer. Barely out of high school, Kitty set out on her own and didn’t look back. She found a home at Casa Maria Catholic Worker house where she worked to help those in need and found a family among her fellow volunteers. For many years she ran the kitchen, making healthy meals for guests and staff. She spent her final years in Minnesota toto be close to her family members. A memorial service will be held on April 4th at Jelacic Funeral Home, 5639 W. Hampton Ave.at noon.
Please help Casa Maria in her honor. Thanks!
NOTES FROM 21ST STREET
Don and I have been traveling down a difficult path this past month. Don has gone to the ER twice followed by short stays in the hospital. Last weekend we decided to attend his sister, Carol’s 80th birthday party in Dubuque, IA. We were unsure whether we should go because of all the medical concerns. We decided we should take our joy where and when we find it. So we left on Friday. That day gave us many gifts. We were blessed with hearing and seeing Sand Hill Cranes as they flew northward. What a lift to our spirits!
Also we were able to visit with Don’s sisters, Carol and Rita. The four of us were blessed by a spectacular sunset. The western sky was filled with shades of red, orange and peach. We were awed by the beauty. I believe it is important to take time to let nature restore our spirit and to spend time with those we love. Both nature and the people we love will bring us through any difficulties we might come across in our lives.
Peace, Roberta
