Hi,
I am using a CAN card in RealTime in which I want to load an EDS file. I am not able to launch NI-DNET Configurator by right clicking CAN card in MAX.
CAN card is listed under Remore Systems->Devices and Interfaces -> PXI System -> PXI 8461.

Please let me know how I can configure this.

Thanks,
Venky

Hi Venky,
Are you using the PXI-8461/D module? This is the only module that will work with NI-DNET and LabVIEW Real-Time. According to the NI-DNET User Manual, there is an RT Hardware Configuration tool. You can access the tool by opening MAX and going to Tools » NI-DNET » RT Hardware Configuration. Please let me know if you still have any difficulty loading the EDS file.
Regards,
Rima

Hey A. Senthilnatha! We will first have to install the latest drivers for Dnet. Those can be found here:http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/858/lang/enAfterwards, you can follow the directions Rima gave earlier to access the configuration tool! Tell me if this helps!"According to the NI-DNET User Manual,

Hello Song,
I have tried little more and found the following error. This may be helpful for you to help me.
I have set the interface name to DNET0 for the PXI-8461D card in RT configuration window. I launched the DNET configurator from C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DNET\bin. I select DNET0 with MACID 0, 500kbps baudrate. I get the following error.
"Reset interface device...fail NI-CAN (Hex 0xBFF62023)"
I guess the MAC ID I have used is not correct. How do I find the MAC ID of the DeviceNet Card in MAX?
Thanks in advance
A Senthilnathan

Hi,

The DNET configuartor is Windows only and not supported with RT. You would need to use the MAX>>Tools>>NI-DNET>>RT Hardware Configuration Dialog to connect to your RT Target. In this dialog make a right click to the device and choose Protocol >> DeviceNet. Now you can use the first port of your device for DNET communication. If you right click the port you can change the device name to DNETX, where X is something between 0 and 63. You do not need to specify the MAC address since this is done for RT on application level (your VI).

You could check for specific EDS file information using the configurator if you have a Dnet board installed on a windows machine opnly.

Hi,
Thanks for your help. Is there any other way to download the eds file in RT system? Or Can eds file downloaded using DNET driver VIs (explicit messaging???) from LabVIEW?
Thanks in advance,
A Senthilnathan

No, unfortunately the eds file is worthless for RT. The only chance is to read it on a windows system and write down the configuration settings you need.

Hi DirkW,
Thanks for your timely help and valuable inputs. I will try reading the eds file and set the parameters using DNET drivers.
Thanks
