Of Nassau sewage, jobs, connections, power etc.

A Bay Park woman who claimed credit for helping defeat Nassau County
Legis. Jeff Toback (D-Oceanside) last year has been hired by the
county’s new Republican comptroller.

Connie Petrucci had been a driving force behind the Green Bay Parkers,
who attacked Toback relentlessly for his failure to address problems
at the county’s sewage treatment plant in Bay Park.

Toback conceded that he lost votes in the area around the plant
because of Petrucci and the Green Bay Parkers. He was beaten by
Republican Howard Kopel, whose election helped tilt control of the
county legislature into Republican hands.

Petrucci was hired Jan. 25th as a $50,000 confidential assistant to
Chief Deputy Nassau Comptroller Francis X. Moroney, top deputy to
Republican Comptroller George Maragos.

Moroney said politics had nothing to do with the hire, and that
Petrucci was highly qualified.

[UPDATE-POSTSCRIPT: Records show Concetta Petrucci, her given name,
wrote a $75 check to Kopel's campaign last Oct. 15th.]
