Both high school math teachers in Uxbridge, Mass., Kaitlyn and Natalie met in 2020 when Kaitlyn joined the school staff after moving to Massachusetts from Florida. The two women, 34 and 30, respectively, who teach across the hall from one another, quickly formed a bond. The 4th grade Graduation/Goodbye activities and ceremony in 2020 during Covid when we could not come back to school! The teachers, staff and administrators did such a wonderful job making the 4th graders have a special goodbye with their teachers, friends and their time at elementary school.

As a therapeutic teacher, I think about ways to interpret these social challenges and help each child begin to identify why certain situations are hard or uncomfortable.The goal of First Friends is not only to foster more socially appropriate skills for each child, but also to provide parent and child with a deeper understanding of what helps.

Construction began in May, and the first of the five newly built houses is now ready for move-in. The organization held a furnishing event in the first home on Wednesday. Two new single mothers and their children will move into the newest complex.

Dr. Bruce DeRuntz still remembers his first visit to Spoon River College, at new student orientation on July 15, 1981. His new head coach, Charlie Black, was out of town. One of five children of a truck driver father and cafeteria cook mother, he was an acclaimed runner from Granite City, Illinois, who had earned a scholarship to the University of Northern Iowa. But there was one problem.

After leaving SRC, he went to Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, receiving a degree in marketing. In December of 1999, he became the first of their athletes to have his jersey retired. Curly played with the Harlem Globetrotters from 1988-2006. He was team captain from 1996-2005, won the Legacy Award in 1996, the Mr. Globetrotter Award in 1998, and the Ambassador Award in 1999.
