I'm having a terrible time getting started this year, so I'm
distracting myself with recording equipment and suchlike. Not sure if
there are other iPhone dorks on this list, but if so...

There's a new, ten dollar 4-tracking app available for the iPhone!
Clever title: FourTrack. I'm mostly excited about being able to
record little song ideas in a more recallable manner than via
voicemail. I lose about half my song ideas when they're translated
through my attempts to beat box the drums, make that "J" sound for
guitars, and sing a melody all at the same time...then try to remember
what the song idea sounded like in my head weeks or months later when
I dig through old voicemails. It might also be fun to use the iPhone
to record one of my NaSoAlMo songs this year, just for kicks...

Anyway, check it out if you're interested:

That would be extremely useful! I have a first generation iPod touch, so it wouldn't work for me, but I've been wanting an iPhone. The ability to record ideas like that might just push that decision along.

Ooo, likewise!  I picked up a Boss Micro BR last year in hopes of filling that niche, but found it to be waaay overkill for my modest demands.  It sits alone and unloved on the shelf, useless until I take the time to figure it out, and too intimidating to figure out.  The iPhone tracker looks much more in line with what I need; thanks for the pointer, Todd!
