I'm almost there. I've surprised myself.

4 songs written and recorded , running time is about 17 minutes.

I've managed to keep to my objectives of writing each song on a
different instrument as well as keeping the writing and recording
session withing 2 hours (well.. nearly.... I usually spend 20-30
minutes at the end goofing around doing a rough mix)

I reckon I can do 2 more and get pretty damn close to 29 minutes. 1
more on Friday and another on Sunday.

Any suggestions on where to post this work when it's done ? What have
people typically done in previous years ?

Not bad, considering you jumped in 2/3 of the way through the month!  Keep up the good work!

There are a number of ways to publish the finished album.  If you don't want anybody but Todd to hear it (for judging purposes), you can use something like rapidshare.com.  If you're happy releasing it all for free, there are a bunch of free sites (e.g. myspace.com, last.fm) that will host and stream the MP3s.

Thank you - I've learned a lot from this. Mostly that I should just
write 'em and demo 'em and move on.

Maybe I should just put up a myspace page just for that purpose.
Problem is that they only allow a limited number of tracks.
I could just put up a clip of each song in a single 'song' on myspace
and then provide a rapidshare link to the full album.

I wouldn't like to confuse it with my "real" myspace site
http://myspace.com/imadethebbc because I'm working on a "real" album
(whatever the hell that is!)

Try last.fm, then; as far as I know, they have no limit on the number of tracks you can put up for streaming/downloading.

There are a few.
Soundclick has free mp3 hosting. You can set up an account for all of
your stuff, or a separate account just for this stuff.

You can use fawmers.com which is the off season site for the fawm
challenge in February. It has fairly low traffic currently, but a few
people go by and check it out.

I think myspace lifted it's 6 song limit. I read it somewhere but
haven't bothered to upload 8-10 tracks to test it. So it may still be
an option. And again you can create an account just for NoSoAlMo if
you wanted. ShabbyroadSoAl or something. I dunno.

I still have a couple of the free googlepages, but they've stopped
taking new accounts. The new pages they have don't allow for uploading
very easily so I've heard. Haven't tried it.

Good luck!

I haven't checked it out yet, but I'm meaning to look into imeem which
apparently allows you to embed uploaded play lists to places like
facebook, myspace, black planet, tagged, hi5, tagged.. and gives you
stats.. hoping you can embed it into wordpress to.

All done but making an MP3 of the thing and putting it on the server;
will get that done Sunday and email to announce it's finished and the
URL.

I'm done now, too ... an MP3 of "... mehr Licht ..." is up at this URL:

http://72.85.228.116/audio/NaSoAlMo2K8/mehr_Licht.mp3

... mind you it weight +32 minutes and 44 MB ... so use with care ...

(Yes, I made a last minute change in plans, did a whole new single
track rather than the more elaborate one I had been discussing ...
I'll still be working on that material!)

Best to all (and there is STILL some time left to get it all done!)

I hit a brick wall today and couldn't come up with just one more song.
I've recorded a cover version so I'll have to listen to it again to be sure that it's ok before I add it to the songs.

Will upload in the next 24 hours as I'm heading to London on Tuesday for a few days.

Finished after knocking out a few today. Only one has a semi
professional sound to it cause I made it with one of the Sony tracks
programs (HOLly JOLly LOLly Catz), the rest are just me and my
guitar. A few came across in just mono but with the time left,
they'll have to do, lol. I had written lyrics to a different LOLly
Catz Christmas song during the 50/90 but never put music to it and
wasn't satisfied with the lyrics so I trashed the 50/90 ones and
started fresh for this challenge.

As to the question about where to host stuff, I'm on on Reverbnation
and have several accounts, but one just for my challenges (FAWM and
50/90). I added my 8 songs (31:50) there, then created a separate
folder for the NASOALMO stuff. If you click to share it, it also give
you a url to share. My songs are at http://www.reverbnation.com/tunepak/930237.

I will give a listen to everyone's stuff over the next week or so.
Thanks for the fun and hope to see everyone in February :)

That was an interesting experiment. I came onboard November 18th so
I'm pleased at getting 25 minutes of material.

I've created a myspace profile

http://myspace.com/iLIVEinAsuitcase

myspace allows a maximum of 6 songs and fortunately I have exactly
six songs

there's also a link there to my "real" myspace profile

I'll go and checkout everyones work soon.
