You may be interested in this upcoming workshop at Bernie's farm. Please pass it on to other gardener / ag friends!

UT Organic Blueberry Production Workshop, March 12, 1-4 pm Trace View Farm, Fly, TN

The second workshop of the UT Agricultural Extension Service 2012 Organic Workshop series will focus on how to raise blueberries organically for your own use and for market. The workshop will take place on the farm of Bernie Ellis in northwest Maury county, and will be led by Dr. David Lockwood, the Extension Fruit and Nut Crops Specialist for the state of Tennessee. It will also include a tour of Bernie’s home garden, which has been raised organically for four decades.

The Organic Workshop series targets commercial producers and agriculture professionals interested in learning about organic crop production practices, but they are open to home gardeners and consumers also. Anyone interested in organic gardening and farming is encouraged to attend. (Children are welcome, but no pets please.)

To get to the workshop from Columbia, take Highway 7 north toward Dickson. Just before going under the Natchez Trace Parkway bridge, turn right (north) on Old Natchez Trace Road. Drive 1 ½ miles until you reach the berry patch entrance on the right. (If you get to Fly Hollow Road, you’ve gone too far.) If you’d like some hands-on experience with pruning blueberry bushes, be sure to bring a heavy-duty pruner or pruning saw.
