Permaculture? Are you interested in natural building, urban and
forest
gardening, backyard chickens, building your own greenhouse, or
building community? Aug 13 meet with course instructors and hosts to
learn more
about these two exciting Permaculture workshops being held this Fall
in Nashville region!
Permaculture is an ecological design system for sustainability in all
aspects of human endeavor. It teaches us how build natural homes, grow
our own
food, restore diminished landscapes and ecosystems, catch rainwater,
build communities and much more. Common across the world, these
hands-on learning courses integrate you in to the actual process of
building, planning and creating while you learn, you won't be yawning
in a classroom at these workshops! Two Permaculture courses will be
hosted in the Middle Tennessee area by experienced Permaculture
instructors and a dedicated support staff.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS AND DETAILS
Sept 7-9: Intro to Natural Building
$350 (includes food and Camping)
We are all part of the earth and the earth calls us to build our
environment in a more natural way. Come learn some simple natural
building methods in this three day hands-on introductory workshop. We
will be building a hybrid Chicken Coop/Greenhouse/Garden Shed that
will be the envy of chicks (plants too) all over the world. We will
be using recycled lumber, stone, cob, straw clay slip and more to
manifest this Chicken Temple. So… Come get your feet dirty, camp and
recreate an earth for seven generations to come.

Oct. 5-14: Edible Forest Garden Design Intensive
$1200-1600 sliding scale
Edible forest gardening is the art and science of putting plants
together in woodlandlike patterns that forge mutually beneficial
relationships, creating a garden ecosystem that is more than the sum
of its parts. You can grow fruits, nuts, vegetables, herbs, mushrooms,
other useful plants, and animals in a way that mimics natural
ecosystems. You can create a beautiful, diverse, high-yield garden. If
designed with care and deep understanding of ecosystem function, you
can also design a garden that is largely self-maintaining. In many of
the world’s temperate-climate regions, your garden would soon start
reverting to forest if you were to stop managing it. We humans work
hard to hold back succession—mowing, weeding, plowing, and spraying.
If the successional process were the wind, we would be constantly
motoring against it. Why not put up a sail and glide along with the
land’s natural tendency to grow trees? By mimicking the structure and
function of forest ecosystems we can gain a number of benefits.
