Gang (Specifically Matt and Josh),

what's the status of this meetup? Anything we can do to assist?

I don't think it has met in a while.

There is talk of bringing in one of the Django creators though:

Waiting to get final confirmation on dates from the speaker and
venue. We're looking at doing a Saturday event in late January. Does
anybody have a recommendation for a successful mini-conference format
they've used in the past? Our speaker is one of the founders and
maintainers of the Django framework so we want to make the most out of
this opportunity. I was thinking a morning "teaching" time, lunch, and
an afternoon Q/A time. Any thoughts on how to maximize this without
taking up everybody's Saturday?

I've never planned an event like this, so any and all ideas are welcome.

Best advice I can give is think about the attendees, think about the value you can provide and design around that. You'll come somewhat close to ideal if you do that, and then you will learn and do it better the next time. But do it!
