I figure this will interest some of you. There are plenty of projects this group can share during a mini maker faire, as well.

About myself:
I'm a software developer who moved to Nashville a few weeks ago. A friend and I started a hackerspace group in Florence, AL around 2010.

You can see the wiki front page archived here:

Make magazine covered one of our creations during the diybio meetings:

I'm excited there's a maker community thriving here, and I look forward to getting involved with this group!

Very interesting groups, Heath. Welcome to Nashville! It would be great if both groups would put in an application for the first Nashville Mini Maker Faire perhaps as an exhibitor, to host a workshop, or both. Check out makerfairenashville.com and let us know if you need any more information.

Becky Fox Matthews, educator on staff with Adventure Science Center through July 4 then retiring and looking forward to more time to Make stuff!

Heather,

Thank you for posting this! I find it really fascinating. Kudos to you for all the success your Alabama group has experienced.

We have to make this part of the Maker Faire. Like Becky, I would encourage you to fill out the short application on http://www.makerfairenashville.com/call-for-makers/

I notice on your Meetup site that you do not have a location for your July 25th meeting. Have you considered Fort Houston? I think they'd be perfect. I'll e-mail them asking if they'd be down. http://forthouston.com/

My brain said "Heath," but my hands typed, "Heather." My apologies.

Thanks for the link Becky, I definitely am looking forward to it. Organizing these type of events can take a lot of your time, and this area will benefit greatly from all the effort, so thanks to everyone for taking the lead! I'll go ahead and put the DIYbio Nashville group down as a participant applicant.

No worries as long as my brother doesn't see the typo, I wouldn't stop hearing jokes for months :) Thanks for the Fort Houston recommendation, it looks like a solid resource for the area.
