Hey there, it looks like we're the only two in this group. Where do
you fly?

I fly wherever there's open space and am still looking around for the best area. I just moved to New England a year ago from Oklahoma so the contrast has been pretty big in flying areas. I used to fly my Stryker at the Nashua High School but quit after two flights just because it was so close to Route 3. That was before I got into trying to make my plane autonomous. Currently, I haven't done much flying but I think flying at New Searles Elementary is going to be my main flying field as it's not too far away from me. There are some soccer fields just off of Main Dunstable near the south end of Conant but I haven't flown there yet.
Where do you fly and where are you located?

I'm a total newbie myself. I've found it pretty difficult to find an
open space to fly so far. This winter has not made it any easier I'm
sure. I started off with helis then got into quads and now I love
hexas. I also have an easy star. The problem is this area has too
many trees! I've had to hire tree people to retrieve my stuff four
times this winter already! And now I've recently lost my hexa when it
floated off somewhere in my area. I think there was a weird bug in
the ardupirate code. I'm hoping to try to ring that hexa when the
weather gets better, but I don't have enough/any skilz as an fpv
pilot. I live down I the Acton, ma-Westford, ma area. Do you fly in
mass at all? I try not to fly near people if at all possible.

No, I don't fly in Mass much because it requires driving down further than I would like although if there were open enough areas, I would consider it. I know out west of Nashua in the Hollis area, there are quite a few open areas but it's more farmland than anything else. I have considered contacting the small airport in Pepperell where they do skydiving to see if they would let me fly there. If so, then I would probably do a little more FPV there and it would be a nice testing ground for putting an autopilot on my Stryker instead of having it on my slower SuperFly. I'm still using the older ArduPilot so nothing fancy. I just haven't gone out to test much (once) to make sure it worked as I bought it used. It's been too cold otherwise and I'm waiting for things to melt off before doing anything else as I don't want any hidden water puddles in the snow to kill my plane or autopilot.

I'm in Maine in the midcoast region (Belfast). Maybe we should do a
"Northern New England" group or change the name of this group in order
to open up the radius and population some? Just a thought.

That might be a good idea although I'm not sure Chris would like me changing it again. Mine was originally the Southern NH / Northern MA UAV Fliers but he had to file it under two separate place and it messed with his naming convention so I just changed it to Nashua. You might ask in the thread just to see if that would be better since there probably are far fewer people in this area because it's heavily forested unlike where I came from in Oklahoma.

I'd be willing to go up to Nashua sometime, just to watch you fly.
I'm new to the whole fpv thing and have not had the best of luck in
terms of crashing and losing my uav's.

Unfortunately, most of my FPV experience was for something related to work so I don't have any of that equipment. I flew a tricopter FPV and outfitted an EasyStar as well. I do have a transmitter but it was damaged in a crash so it only runs on 1080 MHz which I can't use. I plan on getting an airplane outfitted again when I get the chance. I'll try to get a hold of you once I have it up and running again.
