Hey Cohort 2 folks -

Just a heads up that Digital Reasoning in Franklin has a couple of jobs posted and that there may be an opportunity for junior devs even though the postings don't read that way.

Digital Reasoning is where Steve Brownlee works - he guest lectured on a couple of things in the front-end portion of your bootcamp.  Also a bunch of other very bright software folks.  A place with high standards.  A great place to start a career if you can get in there.

Anyway, Steve and 2 of his associates came in to the new bootcamp and did a little talk this afternoon.  Afterwards we discussed a couple of jobs that are open:

QA Test Automation - this is a testing and test automation job.  It's a QA job and a dev job and a bit of an ops job too.  The guys said that they think that DR is willing to consider a junior person for the job, esp. if they have some scripting or Linux sys ops experience.  You'll have to learn Python.  There will be a learning curve without a doubt.  But it sounds like a QA position can lead over time to a developer role.  This job is posted on the careers area of the DR website so if you are interested, go check it out.  And remember, you all learned how to write tests and that doesn't vary all that much between Ruby and Python.

Senior Web Developer - there is also a job posted for a senior front-end developer.  Again, I'm given to understand that for the right person they could be open to a junior person.  Job is posted on the careers area of the DR website.  If you are interested, check it out.  Again, it's written for a senior person, so you won't qualify for it as written.  But if you learned some solid front-end stuff at NSS, if you can brush up on that front-end stuff or if you have been writing more Javascript, etc. since class ended you might have a shot at a junior version of this job.

So - what should you do?   If you are interested, you can submit your resume through the Digital Reasoning job site.  But - there is also a back door way to get your resume into the process.  You can send your resume to Steve Brownlee directly.  That's a bit of an expedited way to get into the process.  You can email Steve at chortlehoort  at gmail.com.  (No, I don't know why chortlehoort, but that is correct.)  Even if you submit through the normal DR website, you should send a copy to Steve and let him know you submitted through the website.

If you send Steve your resume, please copy me as well.  That will allow me to keep a pulse on things.

If you have any questions - let me know or you could also email Steve Brownlee.

Good luck.
