Join us Thursday, August 15th, 2013 for a great evening of hands-on learning and connecting with other developers. Free food and socializing starts at 6:00 PM, the lab begins at 6:30 PM.

Location5410 Maryland Way, Suite 110, Brentwood, TN 37027

Lab: Xamarin

If you’re a C# (or F#!) lover and want to develop mobile applications across iOS, Android, and Windows Phone, then Xamarin deserves your attention. Never heard of Xamarin? Not to worry. They’re the clever folks who developed Mono for Linux more than ten years ago, and formed Xamarin roughly two years ago with a laser focus on the cross-platform mobile development with C# and .NET.

In this lab our primary mission is to get everyone writing, compiling, and running Android and/or iOS applications with Xamarin and C#. We’ll start with a Hello World type sample and then extend a sample application with more meat on its bones. This will be an inclusive experience; no person will be left behind and all questions/discussions are welcome. It will be a fun time for all!

  • Bring a laptop to the event. Macs are required to write iOS applications. Android apps can be authored on Mac and Windows.
  • Download Xamarin Studio for either Mac or Windows (http://xamarin.com/download) and Xamarin’s SDKs (Android and/or Mac). I will bring copies of Xamarin software on thumb drives if it’s feasible. Ideally, you’ll take care of this step before the lab.
  • Bring your mobile devices, too. iOS has a nice simulator which is perfect for development. Android’s emulator is not so amazing. We’ll make do for the event, but bring your Android devices if you have them.
