This is all I could come up with but I am sure there is one of you out there that may be able to help.
22260 reported 2008 to be with Commemorative Air Force at Midland, TX,
but going to be moved to another museum (to be chosen by its
owner, the National Museum of Naval Aviation). Aircraft Illustrated
magazine in 2009 says the plane is to go to the Glenn L. Martin
Aviation Museum, Middle River, MD. Martin Museum took delivery as N5586A MSN 13920
from CAF in Apr 2009.
Subject: Question about Maulers
Sir:
I am a restoration volunteer at the Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum. Back in 2009, the museum acquired the pieces of the last 2 Maulers from the Confederate Air Force. We will be able to build one using the majority of 22260, which was the one flown by the CAF under civilian registration N5586A.
On this aircraft one can make out the decals of the name Grosse Ile. There is a picture on-line of a Mauler with 151 on the nose, attributed to NAS Grosee Ile in 1950. After Grosse Ile the plane apparently went to NAS St. Louis. The number 151 is still on the aircraft. Ours has 151U on the outer bottom of the left wing.
Is there any way of finding out where this aircraft had been prior to Grosse Ile, and when it went to St. Louis?
Any idea of the paint scheme? I have seen 2 different schemes, the one on your site, and another one without the large rear fuselage band (which I assume is white).
I have contacted the Naval History and Heritage Aircraft Command x3 to get the aircraft card, with no response.
Thank you.
