Dear all, in greek and russian sources, we can find the Sages of the pagan Greece (Socrates, Plato, Thucydid etc) announcing the coming of Christ from a Virgin or the Triune nature of God. Those Sages are in many occasions painted on frescoes in greek, romanian, bulgarian... churches and monasteries, holding their "prophecies".
Has some of you heard of things like this in syriac or arabic literature or iconography ?
If so, I would appreciate any answer.
Thank you in advance

Dear Albocicade

You can also add to this a section from the apologetic work of the Melkite author of uncertain dating, Gerasimus: http://www.tertullian.org/fathers/gerasimus_excerpt.htm
The 11th century Melkite author Abdallah ibn al-Fadl al-Antaki also provides a list of such prophecies in Chapter 33 of his Book of Benefit, which he claims to have translated into Arabic from the now-lost Against the Letter of Dositheus by John Philophonus.

Best,

Sam

Dear Albocicade,

Macarius b. al-Za'im (d. 1672) has in his "Book of the Bee"(Kitab al-Nahla), written in 1666, a chapter entitled:

Akhbar wa-nubuwat ‘ajiba ‘an sab’at hukama’ yunaniyin fi tajassud al-Masih wa-wiladatihi min al-adhra’ wa-tadbirihi  wa-salbihi wa-takhlisihi li-l-‘alam

Macarius says at the end that he has found this in old Greek book.

Best, Carsten
