Dear Hugoyoye,
I am writing to announce the open language courses (including Syriac) given by the Source Language Teaching Group (SLTG) at Central European University, Vienna, Austria. Attached please find the brochure of the SLTG, with links to the SLTG website giving all the information
The SLTG was founded in 2009, in response to the growing need of CEU students to acquire a deep knowledge of the languages in which the documents of their research have been and are being written. The move of CEU from Budapest to Vienna and the COVID experience have convinced us to open the courses to students outside CEU. The first courses to open were the Syriac courses of Malphono Ephrem Aboud Ishac (beginner and intermediate), together with an advanced reading course given at the CEU Department of Medieval Studies (the Laughable Stories of Bar 'Ebroyo) by Malphono Ephrem and myself. Fifteen external students enrolled in Malphono Ephrem's courses, and there were three registered external students in the Bar 'Ebroyo reading course. Learning from that experience, now all the SLTG courses are open to external students.
The inscription fee is EUR 100 for a two-credit course. Those interested should write to the SLTG coordinator, Anastasia Theologou (
theol...@ceu.edu). Those interested in Malphono Ephrem's Syriac courses can also write to him directly. I would ask those interested in the Bar 'Ebroyo reading course to write to me.
ܫܠܡܐ ܘܫܝܢܐ,
István
