Dear Colleagues,

Is there a good (obviously modern) book *in Arabic* on Russian saints? I know there is some material on individual figures, such as St Seraphim of Sarov, who is important in Orthodox circles in Lebanon, but is there anything more comprehensive?

A friend of mine has asked me specifically of whether the life of Sts Boris and Gleb would be available in Arabic in any shape or form, either online or in print?

I'll be grateful for any leads!

Sasha

Dear Colleague,
To my knowledge, there are citations of Seraphim Sarov in the book of the Life of Prayer by Matta al-Maskin (first edition 1952 and reprinted many times) I think his life was translated in Arabic in Egypt.
Best regards

Dear Dr Youssef,

Thank you for this information! Yes, I know of this book of Matta al-Miskin. It is interesting that Eastern Orthodox sources have become influential among the Coptic Orthodox. I presume this is a 20th-century development, connected to the monastic revival in Egypt.

In response to my own question, I have done some further research, and it turns out that there is quite a lot of Russian Orthodox material translated into Arabic and published in Lebanon.

A sample of what is available and can be purchased in North America through http://www.alexiapublications.com/ is available here:
http://www.alexiapublications.com/PDF/Newest_Catalog_23OCT2010.pdf. Russian saints would, I presume, be included in the 6 volume Synaxarion by Archimandrite Tuma Bitar, though I haven't seen this work and don't know for sure.

Dear Sacha,
Archimandrite Tuma Bitar's Arabic Synaxarion contains many Lifes of Russian Saints.
Have a look at this: http://www.holytrinityfamily.org/Sinksar/sinksar.html

Sasha,
I also recall that Saint John of Kronstadt's My Life in Christ is quite popular among some Coptic priests.  I know it is translated, but unfortunately, I don't know how to acquire it.
peace,
Maryann
