Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the journal Diálogos Mediterrânicos (Federal University of Paraná, Brazil), we would like to invite the members of this society to contribute to our upcoming special issue. Given NASCAS's vital role in fostering the study of Eastern Christianity and its linguistic and cultural heritage, we believe your research on Arabic-speaking Christian communities and their networks would be a profound addition to this volume.

Between the Mediterranean and Eurasia: Connectivity and Transformations in Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages

Editors:

  • Prof. Dr. Renan Frighetto (NEMED–UFPR)
  • Ma. Murilo Moreira de Souza (NEMED–UFPR/GEHOC)

Scope: This issue aims to move beyond interpretations of isolated political units, instead highlighting the Mediterranean as a nodal point within Eurasian networks. We are particularly interested in the circulation of religious, intellectual, and political ideas between the 4th and 12th centuries.

Considering the expertise of this group, we welcome submissions that explore:

  • Eastern Christian networks (Syriac, Arabic, Armenian, Georgian, Coptic);
  • Processes of translation and the circulation of texts across the Romano-Oriental and Sasanian worlds;
  • Christological controversies and interregional theological connections;
  • Monastic networks and centers of learning as poles of connectivity;
  • Interactions between the Mediterranean, Western Asia, and Islamic contexts.

Key Information:

  • Submission Deadline: July 30, 2026.
  • Requirements: PhD required; doctoral candidates may submit in co-authorship with a PhD holder.
  • About the Journal: Diálogos Mediterrânicos is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal indexed as Qualis A1. There are no submission or publication fees.

We kindly ask that you share this call with your colleagues, students, and broader professional networks. We are eager to foster a diverse and international dialogue on these transregional connections.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Murilo Moreira de Souza at murilo....@ufpr.br.

We look forward to your contributions.

Best regards,

Murilo Moreira de Souza, M.A.
