Dear all,

For some time I have been working on an English translation of Ibn al-Qifti's Ta'rikh al-hukama' in Zawzani's recension as edited by Lippert. Do any of you know whether someone else is already working on such a translation -- or a new edition of the text? I would be grateful to hear about any such project before I get too far along.

Yours,
Alex

Dear Alex,
Ibn al-Qifti's work has been edited in Leipzig in 1903. All recent works refer to this edition.
You can see one English translation of Ibn al-Qufti's passage on the destruction of  the library of Alexandria by Emily Cottrell at the Roger Pearse blog (2010) http://www.roger-pearse.com/weblog/2010/09/24/al-qifti-on-the-destruction-of-the-library-of-alexandria/.
Ibn al-Qifti's work has been analyzed in: Samir Khalil, L’utilisation d’al-Qifṭī par la Chronique arabe d’Ibn al-‘Ibrī († 1286) in: Actes du IIe symposium syro-arabicum (Sayyidat al-Bīr, septembre 1998). Études arabes chrétiennes, = Parole de l'Orient 28 (2003).

Best regards,
Pavel Basharin

Dear Alex,

I am ashamed to advertise myself but in 1988 in my PhD (in Russian) I indicated and  commented parallal places in Ibn al-Qifti, Ibn al-Ibri Kitab al-Fihrist and partially Ibn abi Usaibi`a. The text is available electronically through the Russian National Library  (former Lenin Library).

Yours

Dear Pavel Basharin, Nikolai Serikoff, and those who wrote off-list,

Thank you very much for your help and the references. So far I have been working slowly, as this translation is a side-project for now. It is very good to know about these resources as I proceed.

Best wishes,
Alex
