Hebrew lexicography question

Dear scholars, 

I am wondering if you could recommend a study that traces the development of Hebrew lexicons. I am especially interested in how they deal with cognates in other Semitic languages.

Dear Bishoy,

one place to look is the works by and on al-Fasi, eg

The other place is works by Aron Dotan (From the Beginning of Medieval Hebrew-Arabic Lexicography, in Papers in the History of Linguistics, Aarsleff, Hans, L.G. Kelly and Hans-Josef Niederehe (eds.) and his edition of books by Saadia Gaon) and Aharon Maman.
