Dear Colleagues,
I just received the tragic news of a sudden death, this morning, of a prominent scholar of Arabic Christianity, a dear colleague and friend, and a long-time member of NASCAS Constantin Panchenko.
Many of you will know his brilliant publications, among them the monograph Arab Orthodox Christians Under the Ottomans 1516–1831 and the collection of articles Orthodoxy and Islam in the Middle East: The Seventh to the Sixteenth Century, both of them translated into English by Brittany Pheiffer Noble and Samuel Noble, as well as numerous articles in Russian on the history of the Christian Orient.
It’s a tragic and irreparable loss for all of us…
Grant rest eternal in blessed repose, O Lord, to the soul of your newly-departed servant Constantin, who is fallen asleep, and make his memory to be eternal!
