Dear NASCAS members,

I am so grateful that this week is the official release of my monograph, Muhammad’s Military Expeditions: A Critical Reading in Original Muslim Sources with Oxford University Press.

I have been working on this research for over 10 years and I am so grateful that Oxford University published this monograph.

The book received advanced praise by esteemed historians of Islam and scholars of Islamic Studies. I am genuinely grateful.

In this book, I examined historical Muslim accounts on all the major military expeditions Muhammad led or commissioned, interacting with ample Arabic primary sources and secondary studies, as well as numerous western studies.

I hope many esteemed scholars and students will find it helpful.

Here is a file of few pages.

Also here is the Oxford page of the book, and here is the Amazon one. I also attach a file of the scholarly endorsements of this book.

As you will see, in this book, I tackle tough questions on Islamic historiography and how the narrators shaped it: What can the Muslim tradition reveal about Muhammad's military career? Did he really launch over seventy military campaigns? Why? Can we be certain that the military incursions described in Islamic sources actually took place? These are fundamental questions in any study of the life and activities of Muhammad. In this book, I sought answers, considering the views of Muslims and non-Muslims, the motivations behind raids, and the development of Islam itself.

I’d love to hear from you if you get a chance to explore this book, and would be grateful if you ask your library to obtain a copy.

All the best,

Ayman S. Ibrahim, Ph.D.

Dear friends and colleagues,

Following my email last month about the publication of my book, Muhammad’s Military Expeditions, there’s some excellent news.

To promote the book, Oxford University Press made one chapter available for free access for a month.

Please see here and spread the word.

I’d be grateful if you let your library know of the book and the opportunity. Many thanks.
