Photos from SymSyr Bucharest 2026

Dear all,

Only a few of the many NASCAS members attending the Bucharest conferences came to the meeting. A few potential NASCAS members joined us for the photo session. They will write to Fr Alexander for inclusion in the list. Here are two photos where the following are present, from left to right: (1) Pierre Jabbour, Fr. Hareth Ibrahim, Martino Diez, Hanna Kabalan, Rocio Daga Portillo, myself, Joshua Mugler, Marlene Kanaan, István Perczel, Bishara Ebeid, Radu Mustață, Yeeun Yung (Miss Falafel), Jack Engelmann, Shane Patrick, and Yuhanna Nessim Yusef in front; (2) Fabiola and Habib Ibrahim, myself, Vevian Zaki, Shane Patrick,  Jack Engelmann, and Yeeun Yung. If I missed anyone, please write to the group.

The two conferences were very interesting and rich in collegial exchanges. We missed the NASCAS members who were absent and hope to see you all in Tokyo in 2030!

Thank you so much for sharing those two precious pictures!!

There's a saying in Korea that 'photos are all you have left,' and now it seems true.  

It was a great pleasure to meet the NASCAS members.  I would also like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to all the members of NASCAS for always being so kind, welcoming, and helpful to me. I am also always grateful to Professor Alexander Treiger for founding this group and for his kindness and encouragement.

Thank you for arranging this meeting at the Symposium.

To NASCAS members, 

I was very honored to meet you all. 

As a first symposium attendee, I initially felt quite overwhelmed and a little lost. But being there gave me a lot to think about, especially about how I should study Arab Christianity from Korea and how I might develop my own research in my own context. In that sense, the symposium was also a meaningful challenge for me. I truly hope that I can continue learning from all of you.

Thank you again for everything and for your friendship. Although in part of my mind, I am not sure whether I can keep going or attend our next symposium in Tokyo in 2030, or even make it to tomorrow, I look forward to seeing all of you again. And I will try to continue to do my best in my studies, with prayer and trust in God. 

Most importantly, I wish and pray all NASCAS members and everyone doing wonderful, valuable research at the symposium all the best and continued success, which brings joy to the world. 

P.S. I didn't know people knew me as Miss falafel. Please feel free to call me 'Falafel' or 'Miss Falafel' whenever you like. It's easier!

It was in 2005 that an Iraqi teacher gave me the Arabic name “Fulla,” and later, while traveling in Egypt, I came to quite like falafel. Since “Falafel” begins with the same letter and sounds somewhat similar to “Fulla,” I eventually started using it as my username. My real name is for tax forms. However, my nickname is for the cool crowd. :)
