Dear NASCAS-iyyun,

I have another manuscript request -- this time for two manuscripts from Dayr al-Sharfeh: Sharfeh ar. 7/2 (1278) and Sharfeh ar. 7/3,1 (1281). These are manuscripts of the so-called "four-volume" Arabic collection of Isaac the Syrian. I don't think they are available through HMML (at least I couldn't find them through the vHMML reading room), though perhaps I'm wrong.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Warm wishes to all,
Alexander Treiger

Dear Alexander,

Although HMML has never directly digitized the Sharfeh manuscripts, the HMML Vööbus microfilm collection does include a few images from Sharfeh 7/2, including only the first four folios. You can get access to the digitized images by going to http://hmml.org/research/services/manuscript-image-order-form/ and submitting the form.

All the best,
David

Dear David,

Thank you very much!
I'll do that!
Do you know if there are plans to digitize the Sharfeh collection?

Best wishes,
Alexander

Dear Alexander, they are working on it. Fr. Youssef Dergham will give you more details. Blessings

Hi Alexander,

All I know for sure is that HMML is not slated to digitize that collection. I have heard rumors of other organizations doing it; I'd be very interested to know the truth in that regard.

Dear Sasha,

you may already know this, but they have a collection of microfilms (made back in the 1950s) of Charfeh manuscripts at the Institute of Eastern Christian Studies (IVOC) at Nijmegen:

https://www.ru.nl/ivoc/english/library/library/collection/

I have no idea if they have the manuscripts you need, but if contacting Fr. Youssef fails, it may be worth asking the librarian at IVOC.

All the best,

Hidemi

Thank you, Hidemi!

I didn't know that! I'll definitely ask the librarian. It looks though as if they only have the Charfeh Syriac, not the Charfeh Arabic, but it's worth checking.

Warm wishes,
Sasha

Dear Sasha,

the Nijmegen collection of microfilms is limited to the so-called Rahmani collection, that is the manuscripts that were added to the Sharfeh library after the catalogue of Armalet.
