Dear all,

Would anyone have access to the unpublished updated Arabic translation of Graf's Geschichte der christlichen arabischen Literatur, vols. 2-4 of Fr. Samir Khalil?

Thanks in advance and wishing you a happy and healthy 2022!

Best regards,
Monica

Dear Monica,

Updating Graf's History is a huge project that Fr. Samir launched after mobilizing a team to translate this work into Arabic. Samir was only able to finish a few parts of it.

1- The Coptic part of GCAL was translated into Arabic by Fr. William Kamel (now Bishop Cyrille-William) and was updated by the monk Athanasius of the Monastery of Anbā Maqār. It was published in Egypt in:

ثناسيوس المقاري، فهرس كتابات آباء كنيسة الإسكندرية. الكتابات العربيَّة، جزءان، سلسلة «مصادر طقوس كنسيَّة 1/8 » ، 1/9 ، )العبور: مطابع النّوبار، 2012 (.

2- The Maronite part of GCAL was translated by Maurice Saliba (in Press). A first part of it was updated by Maroun-Nasser Gemayel and published by CEDRAC in 2013.

https://www.usj.edu.lb/publications/catalogue/my-usjinfo.php?perpubid=2759

There is nobody working on the updating of the second part.

3- The Melkite GCAL was translated into Arabic by the late Fr. Ignace Deek. A first part has been updated by several researchers including Prof. Adel Sidarous and Fr. Pierre Masri. The updating project is now under the direction of CERPOC. As far as I know, the publication is hibernating.

The other parts of the GCAL have been translated into Arabic mainly by Maurice Saliba but have never been updated.

Hope this answer is helpful to you. Many blessings for the new year!

Dear Pere Ronney,

This is extremely helpful for now and future reference, thank you! I already have Fr. Athanasius al-Maqari's two volumes and Fr. William Kamel's translation.

My warm wishes for a happy new year!

Best,
Monica
