Proposed Go-Kart track faces opposition: Neighbors concerned about
noise are fighting plans for a go-kart track proposed by NASCAR driver
Michael McDowell and ARCA racer Justin Marks. The drivers' DryLake
Entertainment LLC has offered to buy 31.68 acres for $821,431 for
their Mooresville Motorplex go-kart track in a far end of the town of
Mooresville's new Mazeppa Park. The nearest such tracks are in
Kershaw, S.C., and Danville, Va., Marks said. The drivers tried to
ease concerns about noise when they met with about 30 concerned
residents at nearby Triplett United Methodist Church on Wednesday
night. The track's developers will maintain the existing 80-foot
buffer of pine woods while also planting evergreens, Virginia pines
and Southern magnolia trees to further reduce sound carrying from the
track, project architect Dick Brolin of Mooresville-based Piedmont
Design Associates told the residents. Only two or three go-karts would
practice at any given time during the week, with the sound minimal to
neighboring properties, the drivers said. The track would host four to
six competitions a year, Marks said, and letting people stay overnight
at the track won't be allowed. The karts would adhere to international
karting standards for noise, the drivers added.(Charlotte Observer)

channel in about 75 million U.S. households, hell direct something
hes never seen: the first NASCAR Hall of Fame Induction. That show,

Michael Jordon to serve as honorary starter for All-Star race: Sprint
announced that NASCAR legends Junior Johnson and Richard Petty have
been named as grand marshals and that basketball icon Michael Jordan
will serve as the honorary starter for the 26th running of the NASCAR
Sprint All-Star Race on May 22 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. North
Carolina native Junior Johnson is recognized as one of the early
superstars of NASCAR. In his 14-year driving career, Johnson racked up
50 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wins and 47 pole positions. As a team
owner, Johnson fielded entries for many legendary drivers, including
Leeroy Yarbrough, Neil Bonnett, Darrell Waltrip and Cale Yarborough,
capturing 132 wins and six NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championships.
Johnson retired from his ownership role in 1995. Known by many as "The
King," Richard Petty earned that title by winning seven NASCAR Sprint
Cup Series Championships and compiling a record 200 career victories.
Still involved in the sport he loves, the North Carolina native is co-
owner of Richard Petty Motorsports, which fields four entries in the
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The two NASCAR legends will be honored at
pre-race ceremonies before giving the famous command for drivers to
start their engines. They will then lead the field during the pre-race
parade laps in the grand marshal car. Both members of the inaugural
group of inductees into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, the two men will be
formally enshrined in a ceremony scheduled for Sunday, May 23.
Recognized by many as the greatest basketball player of all time,
Jordan, a six-time NBA champion, will wave the green flag to start the
NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race. The hall of famer, who grew up in North
Carolina, is the first former NBA player to become majority owner of
an NBA franchise when he purchased the Charlotte Bobcats earlier this
year. Tickets for the event start at $39 and are available at
www.charlottemotorspeedway.com or by calling 800-455-FANS.(CMS

Stock Car commission denies Ambrose appeal: On May 20, 2010, the
National Stock Car Racing Appeals Panel heard and considered the
appeal of JTG Daugherty Racing regarding the No. 47 NASCAR Sprint Cup
Series car. The appeal concerned penalties issued by NASCAR following
post-qualifying inspection on April 16, 2010, for the NASCAR Sprint
Cup Series event at Texas Motor Speedway. The penalties concern
Section 12-1 of the NASCAR Rule Book "Actions detrimental to stock car
racing." and Section 20-2.3A: "Unapproved added weight." The
Appellants argued that the pieces added to the radiator support panel
near the nose of the car were simply spacers used to align the panel
correctly with the bottom of the radiator. In the view of the Appeals
Panel, the pieces clearly constituted added weight. Furthermore, the
Appeals Panel was troubled by the thought of unapproved weight located
in an area other than an approved weight container as defined in the
Rule Book. Therefore, it is the unanimous decision of the National
Stock Car Racing Appeals Panel to uphold the original penalties
assessed by NASCAR. The Appellants have the right under Section 15 of
the Rule Book to appeal this decision to the National Stock Car Racing
Chief Appellate Officer.(NASCAR PR)
