Hey Gang
I've been starting to brainstorm about my stewardship project.
I'm thinking that I may do a cell phone recycling drive for the school
and community. I found a site that has a list of several companies
that already have a program in place. I think I'll probably let the
students choose which program they want. Anyone else thinking of
doing this or something similar? Any thoughts/ideas?

Lauren,

Please be sure to check how the materials are recycled.  MANY seemingly legitimate companies ship their collected materials overseas and they have no control over HOW the valuable materials are 'harvested'.  I have seen children burning motherboards in open pits in front of their homes.

Great idea if the company is responsible.  If so, PLEASE do let me know who they are so I can ship my collection of batteries, computers, and cell phones to them.  If the company does not pan out, you could modify your idea into a hazardous material collection site/day coordinated with your local municipality.

Let me know.  Thanks!

And Man created the plastic bag and the tin and aluminum can and the cellophane wrapper and the paper plate, and this was good because Man could then take his automobile and buy all his food in one place and He could save that which was good to eat in the refrigerator and throw away that which had no further use.  And soon the earth was covered with plastic bags and aluminum cans and paper plates and disposable bottles and there was nowhere to sit down or walk, and Man shook his head and cried:  "Look at this Godawful mess."  ~Art Buchwald, 1970
