Again, a big Thank You to all the staff at Narragansett Bay, R.I.
Audubon, and the many other people who supported our learning and
enquiry this week. It was a great experience.
When I arrived home and went through my mail, I was struck by the
timeliness of much of what we had been introduced to. The June 18
issue of Science contains a special section on "The Changing Ocean."
Some of the articles that directly link with what we are studying
include:
Ocean Acidification: Unprecedented, Unsettling (abiotic data)
Down on the Shrimp Farm (aquaculture)
The Dirt on Ocean Garbage Patches (discussion with Mike R.)
The Growing Human Footprint on Coastal and Open-Ocean Biogeochemistry
(projects and lesson plans)
Sea-level Rise and Its Impact on Coastal Zones (pretty much everything
we talked about)
The Impact of Climate Change on the World's Marine Ecosystems
(Leslie's presentation)
So, Thanks, NOAA, for helping us be on the bleeding edge of science.
- Mike H.
