"The reference to the opening words of the Old Testament is obvious, and is the more striking when we remember that a Jew would constantly speak of and quote from the book of Genesis as "Berēshîth" ("in the beginning"). It is quite in harmony with the Hebrew tone of this Gospel to do so, and it can hardly be that St. John wrote his Berēshîth without having that of Moses present to his mind, and without being guided by its meaning.[3]

Second, something important has changed from Genesis 1 to Revelation 21. At the very beginning of the Bible, God exists within the happy community of himself. At the very end of the Bible, he dwells with his people in a new creation. Where did those people and that place come from? God himself created and redeemed both the people and the place.
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Mary Jones was a young country girl in Wales (1784-1864). She had learnt to read in her Sunday school and dreamed of having a Bible written in Welsh. At the age of 15, after having put money aside for a period of six years, she set out to walk over forty kilometers to Bala, where she hoped to buy one. She did indeed get her Bible, which was given to her by the pastor, Charles Thomas. He was impressed by her determination and suddenly realised that there was a great shortage of Bibles and that millions of poor people could not afford to have a copy. He went to London, where he mobilised a large number of like-minded people. This was the beginning of the first Bible Society.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. ...
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

We recently marked the beginning of a new year, and probably for all of us there is that longing for things that are new, for a life that is new. Our hopes are kindled high by the promises of the gospel. But looking back on previous years, we have known that hunger before. Where can we go for satisfaction of that desire? Where can that which is new and lasting really be found?
1. According to the Genesis 2:7 passage we learn that in the beginning, God created human life. What does the Deuteronomy 32:39 passage say about subsequent lives?
As God created the first life, he continues to be the author of all human life.
A great introduction to the Bible for my 4 year old. Simple enough for her to read together, and she loved the stickers. She really enjoyed reading this with me, and the brightly coloured pictures are also attractive to my 2 year old. Looking forward to completing the other books from the beginning with God series with her.
Bought the bundle for my 3 year old and so far can be adapted to use with a different children's bible which is useful. Well pitched for attention span with some fun ideas to engage, and stickers are always a win (although our book 1 stickers were not all present and correct, but hopefully this will not be the case for everyone).
This was a good way for me to introduce my son to the stories of the bible. He particularly enjoys the story of David and Goliath, and has also since become interested in stories of other biblical heroes. The stories are simple and the visuals are eye-catching for toddlers.
