Centuries before the 14th century DR, when Ascalhorn was in its prime, the castle was the home of the mighty gnome illusionist Fitzmilliyun Sparkledrim. He erected the keep and defended it with illusions, traps, and puzzles.[2][3][4]
A century after Fitzmilliyun's death, a tribe of orcs living nearby overwhelmed the castle and slew his servants before they settled in the ruined castle. They sought treasure, but found none.[2][3][4] However, Fitzmilliyun's lethal magical defenses lingered long after his passing, killing a lot of the orcs, maddening many more, and driving them away.[2][3][4][1] Thereafter, the castle stood abandoned for centuries, still protected by its illusions.[2][3][4]
By 1358 DR, the evil wizard MacBec Maclyon, a.k.a. Malcyon, and his orc minions had claimed the castle.[2][3][4][1] Maclyon meticulously unveiled the secrets of the Castle of Illusion and became its master.[4]
Fitzmilliyun placed illusions and glamers, wards, traps, and subtle yet deadly puzzles all through the castle, below it, and outside it.[2][3][4] These combined mechanical tricks and magical illusions, so even the most perceptive would be deceived. His treasures were all concealed by the puzzles and traps. Some of the grandest puzzles were:[2][3]
In addition to MacBec Maclyon himself, around 1358 DR, the castle was occupied by his natural minions. There were thirty of them, including a magic-user, a fighter as his bodyguard, and an orcish witch doctor.[2][3]
Castle of Illusion is a side-scrolling game putting the player in control of Mickey Mouse in a magical quest to save Minnie Mouse from the evil witch named Mizrabel, who has kidnapped Minnie to steal her youth, beauty and mouse form. Each level exists within the large titular castle and the player must defeat enemies and bosses by jumping on them, or collecting apples and marbles to use as projectiles. The player can also collect icons to increase health, collect extra lives, or gain bonus points. After defeating one of the "Masters of Illusion", the player is given a gem. When all seven gems are collected, the player can build a rainbow bridge that allows him/her to walk into the castle's tower for a final battle against the witch (who in her youthful form resembles Queen Grimhilde).
The game takes place within the eponymous Castle of Illusion. Mickey must take it upon himself to rescue Minnie Mouse from the clutches of Mizrabel the witch, who has kidnapped her in order to steal her youth and beauty. The player must battle through five stages and confront each stage's boss to collect the Seven Gems of the Rainbow. Only with these gems can he then build a rainbow bridge leading to the castle tower to face the evil witch in a final battle.
Dianthus later reveals to the Protagonist and their companions that there is no king or royal family and that the castle has never had humans living within it. It was built by the Omen to watch over humans and safeguard them, along with the Seaslights. The Omens had originally intended on placing a royal family within the castle but before they could do so, humans were already spreading rumors of a royal family dwelling within. The Omens then realized humans would invent their own explanations for Omen activities and saw no reason to install a human royal family within the castle at that point. To that end, the throne room has remained empty ever since it was first built.
When you have finished, it's easy to dive back in and complete everything the game has to offer. Because Castle of Illusion uses a hub structure, you're able to walk around the castle and reenter any of the previous levels. Finishing the story also unlocks a time trial mode, which encourages a style of play entirely different from what the mechanics suggest. Having the option to easily go back, beat levels, complete statues, and unlock outfits lengthens the legs of an otherwise stunted game.
Castle of Illusion follows Mickey Mouse as he attempts to defeat the witch Mizrabel who has kidnapped Minnie. As he approaches the entrance of Mizrabel's castle, a mysterious old man appears and offers him assistance. Mickey must defeat Mizrabel's henchmen in each level and obtain a crystal which, if all of them obtained, will open up the route to witch's throne room.
In Castle of Illusion, the player controls Mickey Mouse through six levels, known as the "worlds of illusion." Mickey moves with or . He ducks with and jumps with . While in the air, Mickey can perform a bounce attack by pressing in the Master System version and in the Game Gear version, allowing him to defeat foes that he lands on and bounce up to reach higher places. Mickey can slide down slopes if he lands on them while doing his bounce attack. Mickey can grab an item by holding the D-Pad in the direction of the item while standing next to it and pick up the item by pressing . The item can be thrown with + or +; he sets the item down next to him with . Items can be thrown at enemies to defeat them. Items can also be used as steps to reach higher places. Mickey can swim underwater with . He enters doorways or climbs ladders with ; he descends ladders with .
Now go to the middle room in the first floor of the castle. The soldier has moved out of the way of the door, sogo inside. Go up and talk to the King. No matter what your response is, you are thrown in prison.
Now go north to exit the area. You will be back in Edward's Castle. Go east and up the stairs. Keep going up thestairs to get to the top floor. Go west and talk to Kara. She will join you. Go down the stairs. If you try to leavethe castle, Kara says you should go to the cellar to get some food, so go to the bottom floor and go west.When Kara stops you, check on the nearby open barrel to get a roasted leg of yak. Then go upstairsand leave the castle.
The game is set up to look like a 2D remake. The first 10 minutes feature the same two-dimensional side-scrolling gameplay that the original Genesis game used, albeit with a sharp visual overhaul. But when Mickey reaches the castle, the camera suddenly twists around to his side and the controls open up: The game is now in 3D. It was a surprising, magical moment for me, sort of like the first time I watched The Wizard of Oz and suddenly the film switched from black-and-white to color.

This level takes place in a castle, where there are two sides separated by an outside corridor that connects them. The corridor contains pillars that obscure the view due to it being on the foreground. Many switches are found in the castle, which are used to toggle the red blocks so that they are pushed in or out, where the latter causes them to be solid.
First, Wario must activate the switch in the room on the ground floor, go up to the room in the middle left to deactivate the switch, and then make his way to the door to the right. If Wario has obtained the Super Grab Gloves, he can jump to the right and then grab the Brrr Bear to break the Enemy Blocks to the right, after which he can drop in the pit to go to the right area; if Wario has not obtained said item, he must activate the switch in the room, go up to the room at the upper right to activate the switch, go to the first platform to the left to use the zombie to trigger Zombie Wario, and then fall to the right down to reach the sunlight to revert back to normal, then go to the area to the right. In this area outside the castle, Wario must make it to the platform behind the fifth pillar where there is a Togēba, though there are Para-Gooms on the way there. After that, he must go to the upper platform behind the sixth pillar to get the Red Key behind the pillar.
From the Red Key, Wario must make his way back to the left inside the castle. After that, he must activate the switch in the ground floor room to go up to the room in the middle left. In that room, Wario must go up the ladder to break the blocks above the thin platform, and then bring the Para-Goom to throw it up there and then go up the ladder. After that, he must charge the throw of the Para-Goom to the left to break the pillar (treated as Enemy Blocks) to create an opening to reach the Red Chest by crawling through it.
