What has changed in the past 30 years since we were students there? Is there something in the neighborhoods along that strip of land that runs from Hawthorne and Gardena in the north down between Torrance and Carson into the San Pedro area? From looking at the percentages, that appears to be where the schools are with the higher dropout rates - along the LA County/LA city areas. Torrance to the west and Carson to the east don't seem to be as affected.
Is there something else going on that we're not seeing? Is is possible that the students that want to stay in school are moving elsewhere? Or is there something about what is going on in the schools that is affecting the teaching in those schools?
I've been out of the area for a while, so it might be more apparent to those of you who are still there who might be able to provide first-hand observations as to what has been changing in regards to our area versus the neighboring school district.

Narbonne currently has, I think, the highest dropout rate of any L.A.
County school - 42.5%. That's pretty sad.
