Call for Workshop Presentations - Deadline to Apply: May 31

The iNAPS Conference is open to presentations on virtually any topic useful to peer specialists but is specifically seeking proposals addressing the following topic areas:

  • Non-traditional peer specialist roles, such as those in in-patient, corrections, geriatric or other settings.
  • Improving workplace relationships—how peer specialists can be successfully and meaningfully integrated into the mental health care workforce.
  • Veterans Issues—addressing special issues relating to veterans.
  • Support for Peer Supporters—how peer supporters are finding support for themselves, especially when isolated.
  • Peer Support for Co-Occurring individual or groups.
  • Peer Support in the Addictions (substance use disorder) field
  • How to reach underserved peer groups such as GLBT, minorities, youth, elderly, etc.

Submit your Workshop Presenter application (attached) by May 31.

National Practice Standards (Progress)

Responses to our nationwide survey have been nearly unanimous in agreement with the twelve chosen values. The team is currently reviewing a tool kit published by the World Health Organization (WHO) for improving quality and rights standards for mental health care providers, to see how our efforts can align with theirs. The WHO tool kit is available for review at: http://www.who.int/mental_health/publications/QualityRights_toolkit/en/

Last week, iNAPS executive director Steve Harrington attended a meeting with CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities)also related to the practice standards for peer supporters. Several groups are working toward similar goals of establishing value-based standards.

TONIGHT!!
National Mental Health Consumers’ Self-Help Clearinghouse Networking Call

Because some people have let us know that they would like to participate in the monthly national networking teleconferences of the National Mental Health Consumers’ Self-Help Clearinghouse but they can’t do so during the workday, we are changing the day and time of the next teleconference, which will be held TONIGHT, May 21, at 8 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. CT, 6 p.m. MT and 5 p.m. PT.

The call-in number is 866-906-0123; the pass code is 5037195#.

The purpose of the call is for mental health peers from around the U.S. to get together, share information, and “network.” Join us! Again, the next call will take place TONIGHT, May 21, 2013, at 8 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. CT, 6 p.m. MT and 5 p.m. PT.

If you have a topic or topics you would like to see discussed on this call, please write to Susan Rogers sro...@mhasp.org with the word “Agenda” in the subject line.

One more thing: If you do plan to participate, it would be helpful if you would email Susan Rogers at sro...@mhasp.org to let her know; this will make it easier to keep track of participation and to send out minutes of the call afterwards. (If you don’t choose to do this, please feel free to join the call anyway!)

We look forward to “seeing” you TONIGHT! Please note that this new day and time are just for May; we will keep you posted on the date and time for June!

Thanks,

Susan
