Hi everyone,

Steve Harrington, executive director of the National Association of Peer Specialists (NAPS), has issued a Call to Collaboration on National Standards for Peer Support Providers, which has been posted on the NAPS website:

In honor the value of "nothing about us without us," we invite all peer support providers (peer specialists) to help shape and refine these draft practice guidelines. Our hope is to reach out to all and find common ground that can lead to a common set of core values and practice standards.  

 

As a national organization representing peer specialists and also embracing the wider peer support provider community, we are making a declaration that these values and standards need to be determined by those in the peer support profession, not those in other mental health professions or systems based on values other than recovery, dignity, choice, and support.
