How do other units admit patients to other units. Sorrel Unit admitts
new patients to a low stimulus room for a period of assessment, then
acccording to mental state they move to the high dependancy area and
then to the main area of the unit. Sorrel Unit has only on low
stimulus room and 2 bed rooms in our high depenency area, it can be
very difficult if our low stimulus room is occupied to admit a
potientally violent person to the ward safely. What do other units do?

Within our six beded unit we do not have the space to operate the
system you describe (moving through two different areas before getting
to the main part of the ward). Even if we did I am not sure that we
would automatically apply that process to all service users and would
probably base where the service user is best cared for on individual
assessment. We have a new build being agreed and this will have a self
contained extra care area but not the zoning you describe. Hope that
helps
