ASME Professional Sections provide an avenue for all members to connect at the local level. Sections augment and further Society-level programs and activities, including professional development programs, networking opportunities, and communicating the excitement of engineering through awards, recognitions and other activities. Each ASME member is assigned to a local section (if available), based on their geographic location.

ASME Student Sections allow student members to connect at their university/school. Student Sections are chartered at engineering departments of colleges and universities around the world, and help complement the curriculum of the educational institution while enriching the engineering student experience. Student Sections offer mutual support in study, learning, and professionalism, and provide personal connections and communications within the Society and the profession through mentoring, volunteer, and leadership opportunities.

At ASME, members can join Technical Divisions and Research Committees based upon their professional and technical interests. More than 50,000 members have elected to affiliate with at least one and up to five divisions. Division and Research Committee opportunities include access to a collaborative community of peers, leadership & volunteer opportunities, career development, numerous student activities, technical/research conferences, and the chance to contribute to the publication of technical journals.

This Section provides requirements for all methods of construction of power, electric, and miniature boilers.
High temperature water boilers used in stationary service, Power boilers used in locomotive,
portable and traction service.

This section Describes Requirements for design, fabrication, installation and inspection of steam generating boilers, and hot water boilers intended for low pressure service that are directly fired by oil, gas, electricity, or coal. It contains appendices which cover approval of new material, methods of checking safety valve, safety relief
valve capacity, definitions relating to boiler design and welding and quality control systems.

It defines general descriptions, terminology and guidelines applicable to steel and cast iron boilers limited
to the operating ranges of Section IV Heating Boilers. It includes guidelines for associated controls and
automatic fuel burning equipment.

This section describes Guidelines to promote safety in the use of stationary, portable, and traction type heating boilers. The section provides guidelines to assist operators of power boilers in maintaining their plants as safely as possible. Contains fuels for routine operation; Operating and maintaining boiler appliances; Inspection and
prevention of boiler failure; Design of installation; Operation of boiler auxiliaries; Control of internal chemical
conditions.

This Division Provides requirements applicable to the design, fabrication, inspection, testing, and certification
of pressure vessels operating at either internal or external pressures exceeding 15 psig.

This Division Provides Alternative rules, provides requirements to the design, fabrication, inspection, testing, and
certification of pressure vessels operating at either internal or external pressures exceeding 15 psig.

This Division Provides Alternative rules for Construction of High Pressure Vessels, provides requirements applicable
to the design, fabrication, inspection, testing, and certification of pressure vessels operating at either
internal or external pressures generally above 10,000 psi.

This section provides Rules relating to the qualification of welding and brazing procedures as required by other Code Sections for component manufacture. Covers rules are related to the qualification and re-qualification of welders
and welding and brazing operators in order that they may perform welding or brazing as required by other
Code Sections in the manufacture of components.

This section provides Requirements for the examination, in-service testing and inspection, and repair and replacement of components and systems in light-water cooled and liquid-metal cooled nuclear power plants.

This section provides Requirements for construction and continued service of pressure vessels for the transportation of dangerous goods via highway, rail, air or water at pressures from full vacuum to 3,000 psig and volumes
greater than 120 gallons.

This Subsection covers general requirements for manufacturers, fabricators, installers, designers, material manufacturers, material suppliers, and owners of nuclear power plants. This Subsection which is referenced by and is an integral part of Division 1, Subsections NB through NG, and Division 2 of Section III, covers quality assurance requirements, ASME Product Certification Marks, and authorized inspection for Class 1, 2, 3, MC, CS, and CC construction. Selective reference of ASME Standard NQA-1, Quality Assurance Program Requirements for Nuclear Facilities, is made in this Subsection. NQA-1 provides the programmatic quality assurance requirements for the establishment and execution of a quality assurance program. NQA-1 is not included in the BPVC subscription and must be purchased separately.

Careful application of this Section will help users to comply with applicable regulations within their jurisdictions, while achieving the operational, cost and safety benefits to be gained from the many industry best-practices detailed within these volumes.

All changes to this 2013 Edition are incorporated into the appropriate page and each affected area is identified with a designator. Each Section includes a Summary of Changes that lists the material affected by the change, plus the nature of the change. There will no longer be Addenda service for this 2013 Edition or for future Editions.

Intended for manufacturers, users, constructors, designers and others concerned with the design, fabrication, assembly, erection, examination, inspection and testing of pressure vessels, plus all potential governing entities.
